I'm a big fan of almost all the atrium branches and locations I find that they really do offer the most comprehensive care. However I Echo what a lot of other people have written on here and that weight management is certainly not the most effective or useful tool and honestly was the biggest waste of $250 I've ever spent. I actually dropped out of the program because I felt that there was no personalized care. It took me weeks to get my exercise from the trainer, I rarely knew who filled what role, and frequently needed to call the providers multiple times in order to get a hold of anybody. Most of the information that they offer can easily be Googled which is unfortunate because this is a lot of potential especially considering you can do it in tandem with your providers. It appears this Branch specifically based upon the reviews need some significant work in order to really help individuals.

Everyone (exercise therapist, NP, nutrition, surgeon, medical provider) was supportive, encouraging, solution-based, and consistent in their communication besides Dr Shenelle Edwards-Hampton. I was dropped as a candidate for WLS the last month of pre-surgical phase after 6 months of going to every appointment and completing all requirements as advised. I was warned by previous patients and academic colleagues not to use this office, however, I proceeded due to location convenience. Fortunately, there are better options available.

I have been taken off 4 medications 1 being my daily insulin cutting another medication in half!!! Yay at anytime I have had a issue or concern the staff addressed it immediately! Best decision i have ever made. Now only 1 issue is the nutrition shop running out of thr shakes often! Love the program.

The Weight loss program is a JOKE. What a waste of time and $$$. Anyone seriously wanting to make a life change would be better to work with a personal trainer and licensed/registered nutritionist/dietician. Then schedule many visits a month with people who know you, care, and and get real help. There was nothing personalized or helpful with this program. If I could give it negative stars I would. The only helpful information I received was my resting metabolic rate which was 2000cal (mind you the test wasn’t done correctly because the physician never told me when to start, so she ran the test without the equipment in use). Then they told me to eat 100-120 grams protein a day and drop to 1200 cal per day ??. I didn’t need to pay almost $1000 for someone to tell me that…Now it is 6/6/2023 and I am doubling down on this manure of a “program”. Just redid my resting metabolic rate- it’s 1500 calories, down 400 from when I did it back in October. So now according to the weight management program, I am only supposed to eat 900 calories a day to lose weight. I’m not a medical professional but that seems wrong… worst experience ever…

Dr. Powell is the best! He takes the time to listen to you, then will make a plan that is right for you. Highly recommend!

Front desk does NOT have customer service skills. Very rude. Nurses too. Won't go back

I caution anyone in true need of weight loss help to get help elsewhere. This place is not in the business of treating patients to reach wellness. This place is in the business of making money and keeping customers coming back. They will force expensive surgery and post op treatment. They won’t listen to your concerns or suggestions for treatment about your own body. Oh, and they’ll weigh you in front of other groups and patients like a cow at the state fair. Shame and humiliation are just part of their treatment plan.Obesity is a disease that cannot be willed away, cured by shame or with a fruitless conversation with a nurse every month. They set patients up for failure on purpose to keep the money coming through consultation bills. You know when you ask a medical professional for information so that you can make an Informed decision about your health, and the “medical professional” gives half truths so that they can force the most profitable outcome for THEM, you are dealing with a scam.Don’t believe me? I lost 45 pounds once I LEFT this program and found a doctor who listens to me, respects my authority over my own body, and doesn’t treat people with obesity like “eww fatty, just stop eating cake!”To anyone with obesity who really wants help: Find a real comprehensive weight loss treatment program with obesity trained physicians who are willing to LISTEN to you.

Attended the seminar, as required. Got a voicemail from Cathy that I don't qualify because of my BMI. Rather than calculating what I provided to them on their required paperwork (as measured by my PCP), they elected to use a weight entered by an Atrium Urgent Care provider from a month ago who DID NOT WEIGH ME. (I was there for a broken bone; why would they?) My callback took 17 minutes to even get to Cathy, as a receptionist tried to put me in another seminar. Cathy said they have to go with what's in the file. (The implication here is that I WAS weighed and for some reason was dishonest on their paperwork.) Compassion and trust were absolutely lacking in a practice that should know better, given their specialty area. I hope they do better in the future.

I will change this review if conditions change, but I want to share with others my experience thus far so that you can consider other options. I started this journey in June of 2021, receiving approval to move forward with bariatric surgery. I met with the surgeon who let me know the estimated date of my surgery would be late September, early October. They responded quite timely with all the appointments I would need booking me out all the way until September. I was able to attend every appointment, and got all my clearances from nutrition, psychology and fitness. I did notice the check-in woman I regularly checked it with was quite unfriendly, but just brushed it off. Then nothing. I finally get an email message from scheduling on October 4th to call Tina back on her direct line to schedule my surgery. I called back the next day and left a message. No callback. Called the next day and same- no answer/left a message. Called Thursday, no answer. I receive an email from Tina on 10/7 that she will call me that day or Tuesday 10/12. Tina again did not call me either day. On 10/12 I contacted my coordinator to find out what is going on, if there is someone else I can contact, and now they aren't responding. If situations are behind or delays, I'm okay with that, however show me the respect of an update. Not calling a patient back and ignoring all messages in over a week is very unprofessional. They were the ones asking ME to call THEM. I am scared to know what kind of after-care they will provide if I'm having any difficulties since they don't return my calls. At this point I am considering transferring to a medical group with higher ratings, I truly regret having gone with Wake Forest in the first place. I wish I had seen these low rating to begin with. I firmly believe that as a professional organization it is very important to set reasonable expectations, treat patients with respect and address their concerns in a timely manner. And if you cannot do that, take less patients till you can.UPDATE 11/24 - I did finally hear back and had my RNYGB surgery 11/11. I do think the surgeon herself and her immediate team are skilled and professional, but unfortunately it ends with them. The hospital (Wake Forest Baptist) sent me home with the wrong discharge paperwork - with instructions that could have caused major medical complications. Fortunately, we noticed the blatant contradictions and questioned it and received a call back a few days later with their sincere apologies and promises of re-training staff. As I feared, the post-op support is non-existent. I had an issue a few days after coming home and tried to contact the nurse helpline - they took a message and never called back. It takes 30+ minutes on hold to even get to a human who has only been able to take messages. This is not the type of care they promote or advertise. Maybe they were better staffed prior to COVID, but my experience has shown a scary lack of professionalism and care. I wish I could have updated my review with a more positive outcome, but I don't feel I can. There are many choices in the area for WLS - please do your homework and find a practice that can adequately handle the patient load while providing excellent care.

Updated review. I finally found the time to try their program I did the weight loss program aiming for surgery hopefully. The package I purchased was very flexible and tailored for my needs. Dr. Ard and his team were so patient and encouraging. They are really the standard all other programs should aim for. This program literally changed my life. As always I just wish they had flexibility in their appointment times, but I would not have changed anything about the time I spent there.

In reading the other reviews, the negative ones about unprofessional, uncaring, and a scam, I like to address those. Both my wife and I have went through the program, and we found them to be incredibly honest, helpful, and forthright. There are things to be aware of in coordination with your insurance, so you have to know costs going in. But, they did find a diet plan that works for me, granted I did not do the meal replacement plan, because that is more for extreme weight loss, but I never had a single incident where anyone was anything but kind and professional to me. I would gladly recommend them, and would be glad to answer any questions from a patient perspective if needed.

I'm in the medical weight management program for one month. So far it's been a rocky road. Wrong diagnosis in chart, a mix up with another patients info in my chart so unable to access program for a week, Dietican with incorrect information. Scheduled for unnecessary test. Had been trying to join support group for a month. Unable to get prescribed medication because office will not send prior authorization despite multiple attempts from pharmacy. I'm still hanging on by a thread. The program sounds so good in theory..I'm hoping it gets better.

I am I the beginning phase of this journey and frankly my life depends on having the surgery.(My review will change to reflect my experience over the course of my treatment.)Unfortunately, losing weight the way I would LIKE to is not as simple... otherwise I'd be doing it.My review is mostly provoked by seeing SO MANY negative reviews and wondering how many are legitimate and how many are not. With my life on the line and a 13 year old daughter that needs me, (I am all she has after all,) I can't be confused by misleading reviews. Here's what I would like to know... The opinions I'm asking from other past patients, if you will.Of these negative reviews, how many do YOU think are legitimate? I've worked with customer service before and truthfully, not to hurt any feelings, (and THAT being the issue) sometimes people can be very sensitive. I know I can be too.I remember feeling as if one of the doctors at the seminar was very condescending. When answering my question he made feel like a fool. Now, does it mean he really DID or was it just me? I chose to give him the benefit of the doubt and overlook it.Now, aside from sensitivity, how about business? Do they really give you the 'run-round' or is insurance to blame?I've worked in these areas... I know both sides can complicate things... neither wants to budge and the patient gets caught in the middle. So, if anyone who has been through this can HONESTLY give me feedback, I would appreciate it. I don't want to hear from....Employees, friends, family, paid affiliates, etc., of these people. Just be honest.Thank you.
