One of the only tattoo establishments that I do and will ever trust to permanently mark my skin.Walking into the fresh, bright, clean front room, you are surrounded by the most amazing tattoo history. Chuck is so kind and full of knowledge; you really will want to sit and listen to him for hours. The hall is lined with some amazing books from Book Mistress and Harriet is the sweetest lady. And behind the little half door is shop security, Moose. He's so cute ?.Johnny has done many, many tattoos on me and I've never had a complaint. Every time, I'm more amazed by his artwork and wear it proudly. Living in another state and constantly being asked "Who did it? Where?" every where I go makes me over the moon excited that I have such beautiful work on me.Thanks Chuck and Harriet for opening the doors of such an amazing place and a special thanks to Johnny for making me happy being in my own colorful skin.

If you have any interest in body decoration and find it’s history as fascinating as I do, you will absolutely love the Tattoo Archive! It’s a museum of all things tattoo, and it’s resident historian, CW Eldridge is an expert with fascinating stories to share. Check him out on Netflix’s documentary series “Explained” season 1 (episode with the obvious title: TATTOO). His partner in crime and in life, Harriet, is the “Book Mistress,” proprietress of a rare tattoo book mail order business housed at the same address. The two are a salt of the earth couple with easy smiles and generous attitudes. Before Covid they started the Tattoo Historical Society annual meeting in Winston-Salem, NC. At its most recent meeting (annually, October), tattoo-loving folk gathered from all around the US and Canada to share talks about tattooing, peruse and shop for tattoo art from well known artists, and tattoo machines and paraphernalia from back in the day. It was an amazing afternoon of schmoozing in an ultra laid back community of people connected by their love of tattoos. Check out the shop onfb @Bookmistress andIG @book_mistress @tattoo.archive

Sort of a mom & pop establishment. The entrance is a tattoo art museum and the tattooist is in a little office down the hall ( he is the only tattoo artist there if I am not mistaken) and at the end of the hall is the Mistress of Book with her artistic books of tattoos lining said hallway. (In the glow of the picture of the Asian flowers [also a part of the museum] you can see said books reflected). It is only lacking in that he has very few displays of his own tattoo work.

Clean, friendly, professional staff. My sketch was just as I imagined it and Johnny "Tugboat" made my 3 hour tattoo session go by quickly! I would definitely recommend this tattoo parlor.

This was my first tattoo and Aaron was amazing! He told me everything there was to know about tattoos and was patient with me and redrew what I wanted like four times. When I got the perfect drawing he started off slow since I was afraid of the pain of a tattoo and coached me through it. It was done in like 5 minutes since I got something small; and he was still willing to take breaks if it was too much for me! So happy with my tattoo and that I got Aaron. Recommend 382929% and will for sure come back to get more done with him!! This is when I first got it done, compared to 4 hours later after following tattoo care instructions from Aaron. Thank you guys!
