“tl;dr: A hidden gem of an independent bookstore in Medora, with all sorts of books about the West!

Service and Price: The owners of Western Edge Books are friendly and very knowledgeable. I’ve visited several times and they have always been very pleasant, even when I come in a miserable mood because it’s hotter than a sizzling skillet outside. This is a hallmark of an independent bookstore; their quality of service is always going to be better than any retail chain, without exceptions. The prices can vary, especially with the uncommon used titles, but you can expect to pay regular retail prices, which I happily do, as supporting local businesses and indie bookstores is a duty for us all.

Selection: Western Edge Books really focuses on Western books, to include cowboy books, Native American books, women in the west, and pioneer era books. They have both new and used books. They do an excellent job at curating their inventory around the western portion of the American contest. Of course, they have a respectable section about Theodore Roosevelt, including a few titles I’ve never seen before (which is rare, I have an extensive collection of TR titles). But if you are looking for other topics that don’t have to do with the West, Medora, or Native Americans, then you might leave empty handed. They also have a fair share of western themed artwork scattered about the store, as well as some music available in different formats.

Location and Parking: Smack dab in the middle of Medora, and right beside the Billings County Courthouse Museum, it is easy to find in this bustling metropolis. Just go to the southwest corner of Broadway and 4th street, and look carefully to find it. Parking can be limited, especially during the busy seasons, so be prepared. But the ground is flat, save for a few steps to get in, so entry is easy.

Interior: In line with their store name and offerings, the store has a very rugged feeling. The interior is pretty much all wood, with little about it in the way of fancyness. They do keep the store clean and organized in every fashion, but if you are looking for a luxurious western bookstore full of elegance and sophistication, go elsewhere. It’s a log cabin style shop with wood floors and an AC in the window that feels like heaven on hot days. It’s clean, bright, and most of the books are facing out so they are easy to see and pick up.

Overall: Western Edge Books is a great indie bookstore run by great people in a great little town. So long as you’re looking for a good read about the west, you won’t leave without something piquing your interests!”

“Clean rooms but like other guides have said on here, even when the hotel is near empty they will group everyone together right next to each other so ask for a room away from others if you notice it’s light on guests. Some space between rooms of people would have been nice. I’d like hotel management to explain why they do this?
The dining room is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays for some reason so we went to the saloon for dinner down the street which was packed. Begs the question why rough riders grill doesn’t capitalize on that?”

“We stayed here on a whim as we wanted to camp in the NOS campground but it was full and the forecast was for a large thunderstorm so we booked in a night here.
Staff was friendly and helpful, cost was a bit high but the cleanliness of the rooms made up for that. Extremely clean rooms and bathrooms, great job, housekeeping team. Location was great, we could walk to anywhere in town.”

“This was a great hotel. Nicely located for a short walk to restaurants and shops but off the main path so it is quiet. Rooms were clean and the facility seemed to be well maintained. The pool was nice with towels available and also appeared clean and cared for.”
