Do not adopt or foster from this organization!!! They are crooked and absolutely do not care about the animals. They bring animals in from others states who have been housed in mills and other abusive situations, they are an undercover money affiliation. They laundry money and are investigation for the abuse and mistreatment of voices that cannot speak for themselves.

May be the worst shelter I have ever tried to work with! I would leave no stars if possible, tried for a dog there and got a call that she was going to call back never did. No email, nothing! Did not feel like they truly wanted animals to go but to make profit on them NASTY!!! They didn’t seem friendly to work with, and the play room they have to met the dogs was disgusting full of pee and poop. My fiancé and I went to Central Dakota Humane society it’s a little drive but we felt welcomed right through the door! All dogs there are spayed/neutered and they truly want their dogs to go to a loving home! I will be adopting from them over anything, so if you are looking for an amazing place to work with who wants dogs to have an amazing life CDHS is amazing! DO NOT ADOPT WITH SVAS!!!

0 stars. This place steals animals then won’t hold them for you to go and get them back. They are heartless over the phone and I will be pressing charges. Horrible horrible place. You can’t say your a real animal shelter and want to find animals homes if you won’t help an animal go back to its home. My daughter is heartbroken right now and I will get our pet back.

If I could leave less stars I would. To anyone looking for honest reviews or to help an animal locally please research actual shelters/rescues that help their communities. SVAS is not one of them. Not only does SVAS ship massive amounts of animals into an over populated area, well bragging about their disaster rescues, they refuse to help with actual disasters in their own area. From the constant false information provided by them, to actual horrible experiences from many adopters, to a constant outflow of Not spayed or neutered animals, to animals not properly screened for behavior issues, to running a local shelter like a pet store, and actually refusing to take back animals they lied about well adopting out, there's issues with themselves and the community they're supposed to serve has created an endless list of problems. Well reviewing their reviews here, please keep in mind that when the community started to be honest and give them the reviews they deserve, SVAS somehow managed to get over 100+ 5 star reviews added in a matter of several days. Most reviews coming from profiles that have never even lived in or visited the actual shelter they left a review for, and profiles that where just created and had never left a review before. This ridiculous outflow of fake reviews is nothing more than another example of the extent they go to to lie and profit off animals in horrid situations. This rescue should honestly be completely rehauled and current leadership actually charged with their lies. I could not even begin to fit the problems and complaints from local adopters and other rescues themselves having major issues with this pretend shelter.

I used to love this shelter as this was where my beloved cat came from. But as of late they have become low level at best. They don't and will not care for local animals in need but will truck in shipment after shipment of animals FROM OTHER STATES! We have an animal crisis right here in North Dakota. They are horrible and have no regard for the safety and needs of local animals. It's sad but I guess that's what happens when you have poor low level management

If I could give a zero I would. Continually bringing hundreds of dogs from different states and then turning away animals here in our state that NEED HELP! And still asking local peopel for donations.... come on. Be better.

First and foremost: A dog was dumped on my property outside city limits in October of 2021so the dog could not go to the city pound so I reached out to SVAS. I was told by whom ever answers the phone that it would $150 to surrender said animal (even though it was not mine) and that their waitlist was so long that it could take weeks or months to get the dog into the shelter which I responded with "my dogs are aggressive towards strange animals and it's not safe for me to keep it" and the person replied with "I'm sorry, we can put on the list if you want" but according to one of SVAS recent Facebook posts (August 10th 2022) they claim they no longer have a waitlist but upon reading the latest Dakotan article published (August 27th 2022) about SVAS, it seems that they still do have a waitlist but now just for animals with "medical challenges"? To me, a waitlist is a waitlist. Thank goodness for the other local rescues in the Minot, ND area. Another rescue promptly took the dog in without anything in return. I was happy to donate a collar, leash, and a very nice kennel to them for taking the dog off our hands.Secondly, after asking multiple questions through comments on Facebook for SVAS to answer about SVAS potentially bringing in multiple dogs from out of state, they not only deleted almost everything I commented, which was in no way rude or "trolling" they had the audacity to call my old place of work and tell the manager that I was "slandering" SVAS. SVAS's social media coordinator or whomever else monitors their Facebook page went out of their way to go to my profile to see where I worked, called said business, and tried to tarnish my reputation. Having a bad experience and trying to learn how one operates their 501c3 non profit is not slander. Calling someone's place of work to try to get them in trouble is slander though
