Hours: Super A Foods is one of two grocery stores serving Hay River, NWT, and is considered by many to be the best in town. The store is very clean, always well kept, and has an excellent selection across pretty much everything, including unusual and organic foods. For the NWT, it is seen as superior to other options. The bakery makes excellent croissants. Sale prices are comparable to sales in larger southern chains, and stocks on sale items are plentiful. The manager and good staff are very helpful, super friendly, and have pride in their store and service. The store is open until 8pm and has a public washroom. Shoppers from the south should note this is not a big city store, and some realities of shopping in the North apply. Prices are high, perishables should be enjoyed quickly, and selection can be limited—if you see an item you like, it is advised to buy it as it may not be there later. While generally praised, some feel service has fallen, noting workers can seem unhelpful with tasks like grabbing boxes. The store has a feature for kids: you can ask them to turn on the train.
