If you're looking for a mortgage, steer clear of the Dartmouth branch of the East Coast Credit Union.
I took a variable mortgage with the Port Hawkesbury branch of the ECCU. The person I was working with was able to get me a competitive reduction off of Prime, so I was willing to take the gamble.
15 months into my mortgage, I get a call from Brenna Warner, the branch manager of the Dartmouth branch. She told me that since interest rates had gone up, I now had to modify my mortgage agreement, and she would "help me." What she meant was that she wanted to help herself, because I soon learned that Brenna only cares about profits and quotas, not people.
She tried to sign me up for a Total Access Home Equity Mortgage, which would involve a fixed rate and a $600 fee. The fixed rate she offered wasn't competitive at today's rates, so it would have made no sense to agree just as interest rates were due to start dropping on my variable loan.
Well, she quickly lost her patience with me and in a couple of curt emails she informed me that she was going to raise my monthly payments by $500 if I didn't take this fixed price offer.
All of this was starting to feel like a scam, so I reached out to the person at the ECCU who I'd originally worked with up in Port Hawkesbury. She quickly informed me that so long as rates didn't increase further, I was fine at my current monthly payments.
So why did I have to deal with Brenna Warner, her scammy offer, and her impatience? I have no idea. Since she's decided that she won't succeed in preying on me, she won't return my emails.
So yes, in short, you do not want to work with the Darmouth branch of the East Coast Credit Union. And if you ever get a call from Brenna Warner, I'd suggest not picking up.

A great banking experience. I always get personal feeling service here and I love the feel good component of banking with a credit union that gives back to the community and uses my deposits for local lending instead of funneling my money to wall street investment banks.

I just wanted to shout out to Karen who assisted me recently with the purchase of US funds for a trip I am planning. I also had some general questions about RRSP's and she was most helpful. I am not a member of this Credit Union, but anytime I stop in the staff here is always pleasant and courteous. It's important to recognize people when they help so thanks again for your pleasant smile and making me feel welcome. Have a wonderful day!

It's easy to get to, even though it is off the main drag. Approaching the building and the interior are very tidy. Everyone I had to interact with was friendly and helpful. Overall it was a comfortable experience and would recommend this branch to others.

Credit Unions are a better choice for those who dislike high fees charged by The Big Five banks.
