If you don't like listening to whales close to your campsite, this place probably isn't your thing. The owners went over and about to help make our stay wonderful. We turned our one night stop into 3 because there's so much to see and do close by. Gail is warm, welcoming, friendly, helpful and we had a fabulous visit!! Facilities are very clean & well kept. Bathroom are clean, showers are hot and the portapotty down the hill is immaculate, convenient and seriously the nicest one I've ever been in! (You have to see it to believe it - the nightlights give a great ambience, and there were actually no spiders! Highly recommend!!

Beyond beautiful experience at Whale of a Time Camping in Freeport, Nova Scotia! For seasoned campers or for those who are new to the adventure, this campground offers the most value for amazing ocean views, sensational sunsets, great campsites, clean bathroom/showers, but most of all the hospitality of a family-owned business sharing their glorious ocean hillside and their knowledge of the area with campers. Other bonuses are the aesthetics of the grounds with native plants, well-designed variety of campsites, nice walking trail along the shore.A note again about the owners, Gail and Reid. They are so accommodating and care very much about your experience. We were needing to drive over for a scheduled whale watch tour but our jack failed and we were not able to unhitch our travel trailer. Reid came to our rescue and we were able to get onboard in time to enjoy a fabulous experience seeing mostly humpback whales, real close. It was breathtaking. We can’t wait to be back, Whale of a Time!Nearby activities: The whale tour out of Freeport was awesome and you can even walk to the pier from the campground.Walkability: One can walk to the nearby village, we picked up some homemade jam. There is a lovely cafe near the pier and there is a connecting trail from the library to the campground.Noteworthy details: The views are spectacular, even the view toward the little village is picturesque.

We've stayed at dozens of public and private campgrounds, and without a doubt, this one ranks among the best. The location offers a stunning ocean view, with fantastic walking trails nearby. The shower and toilet facilities were incredibly clean and cozy. The owners were exceptionally kind and responsive. Even small details were taken care of - like being able to purchase a large bundle of dry firewood that's delivered right to your site. Despite being on an island, access is very straightforward. The ferry is free and runs frequently. Highly recommend!

I can’t say enough about how wonderful our stay at Whale of a Time was! We were led to site 13, which had the most spectacular view of the Bay of Fundy and the strait btw Freeport and Westport. The hosts delivered a very generous amount of firewood and were extremely friendly. A trail from nearby our site led down the hill and along the Bay. At night, thoughtfully place solar lights lit the rail fences set up between the sites and made the entire scene more charming. Though without services, this campground is worth every penny of the $50CA (which included firewood). By far the best site in our 4 month journey from California!Walkability: Trails led to and from the campground along the Bay of Fundy.Noteworthy details: The most spectacular view and sunset!

Wow, such a beautiful place, we stayed in cottage 3, beautiful inside, modern design. Walk or drive over the hill to glass over the bay of fundy for whales. What a fabulous view. Just amazing! The owners work hard to make it feel and look amazing, very clean property. If you love nature and the outdoors check this place out. You won’t be disappointed. We will be back for sure.Nearby activities: The ferry to briers island is minutes away, crosses every hour, and it’s free. Also, beautiful cove is not, you can hike around the property. The balancing rock is def worth doing while your there also, it’s about 15 min drive towards tiverton. A little hike and 235 steps to the stone. The quick way convenience store isn’t far, from whale of a time camping also.

We had an absolutely amazing time at Whale of a Time. Not only is the view absolutely incredible, but the family is so lovely and welcoming and the services are top notch. The bathrooms were the cleanest and nicest we saw on our 6 week trip, the wood was excellent, very dry and came with kindling, paper AND delivery, the sites were level and specious. Our daughter had a blast playing with the owners boys and they were so welcoming to her. Was truly a highlight of our trip. Highly recommend!!

My family and I stayed there last week with our RV. OMGOSH…absolutely stunning views. Being there was a sense of calm, relaxation, and peacefulness. It was truly a most wonderful experience. Gail and Reed were amazing owners who go above and beyond to make their guests feel welcome, and at HOME! Nova Scotian hospitality at its finest. Bathrooms/showers are immaculate, clean, and organized. The best I have ever seen in my camping days.Love supporting the local economy as well. Purchased a few of the mats that Gail keeps at her office. They are made out of local lobster ropes from Fundy Forty Fathom Mats. We checked out the local restaurant - Rock + Alder Gallery Cafe. They make the best fish sandwich.Thank you again Gail. ❤️

Love, love, love this place!! Camped in our van for 4 nights with 3 kids, ages 4, 9, and 11. I don't normally write reviews but this place was magical and the owner really nice.We were right by the shore, which meant insane sunsets, hearing whales and a perfect breeze. We were nervous at first because the weather report predicted storms the whole time but it never stormed while we were there. Locals said this is really common - often the reports predict bad weather then it just goes around the island. For us it was really cool misty, alternating with bright sun. There was a light rain a couple times but it wasn't a big deal. And the fog didn't affect the whale watching bc once we got out far enough it was gone.We were also about 10 feet (3 m) from the volcanic basalt rocks that we could climb around on and walk along the shore for quite a while. I've never stayed in such a beautiful spot. If you're coming to NS you should not skip this. We even walked along the rocks to get to the whale watching company (Freeport Whale and Seabird Tours - also INCREDIBLE - we saw so many whales, at extremely close range (3 meters/20 feet) and doing different movements. We also saw an orca!)All 3 of my kids could handle the rocks - they're really rough as long as you don't go on the wet parts. All my kids (and my husband and I) loved collecting rocks. There were amazing rocks to collect of all different colors. We also loved the simple hiking trail through the grass and bushes and over the bridge and to the lookout spots with benches. We biked all around the close by area. The hills in the campground are steep but short so we enjoyed the challenge or walked. Once out of the campground there were wonderful easy bike rides along the less busy road by the shore that my kids could handle fine (4 year old on the back of my husband's bike). We enjoyed biking to the convenient store, and to the little cafe near the ferry. We also biked to the ferry to go over to Brier Island for the day, which was also incredible. The ferry is very easy, runs all day and night, is free, and the workers invited us up to the bridge to see how the work the boat. On Briar island there were also really nice short walks with incredible views and an easy bike ride along the not busy shore road.

Wow. What a find. Breathtaking views from every site. Rarely does anyone rave about the quality of firewood at a campground but it was too good not to note (well seasoned, kindling and paper provided with each order and delivered to your site). The bathroom/showers were excellent - new, very clean and water was hot). This made for a perfect launch point to explore Brier Island (whale tours, big trail, lighthouses, etc.) but honestly with the views from our site it was a destination on its own. So glad we extended beyond original plan of 1 night. Glad to recommend to anyone thinking about camping/RVing along Digby Neck/Long Is/Brier Is!

We spent two nights tent camping here, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The view is amazing, and it was fairly early in the season, so we almost had the place to ourselves! The bathrooms and the showers were nice and clean! Be prepared for a hike to the top of the mountain for your showers though!

This is a wonderful campground! We drove from Texas to get to Nova Scotia and this campground was well worth the drive! Beautiful views and we enjoyed watching whales from our site several times. The owners are wonderful and the facilities were very clean. If you're looking for a laid back campground to enjoy the bay, stars and whales, this is campground is for you. Gail - thanks for a wonderful stay!

The owners, the views, restrooms are the best. If you are anywhere near Digby & need a place to stay it is so worth the scenic drive to the campground. You will not be disappointed. Gail also supports some local artisans so if you are looking for some unique maritime items she has them.

Great place, clean washrooms, fantastic hosts, generous with campfire wood. We will go back because of this and the natural beauty of the area. There isnt a bad site in this campground, views of the Bay of Fundy are lovely. Highly advised but make sure you can stay in an unserviced campground which is not a problem for us.
