Worst school photos I've ever seen, year after year. Off-centre and/or tilted subjects, weird postures that look like no posing was done whatsoever---truly a lot worse than a conscientious amateur would do.
And then the pricing is off the charts. Someone needs to start a competing business, it would be like shooting fish in a barrel.

Office Manger is in her last week which is fine but I don’t deserve to be treated that way trying to navigate the photos system that I have no idea how it works.She was nice after being absolutely rude to me when trying to problem solve.Enjoy your new job more then this one.

I have to contradict the bad reviews on this place; they were a pleasure to deal with for my university grad photos! My first set of proofs didn't turn out quite the way I wanted, but it was no problem to get a hold of them to schedule retakes, and at no extra charge! They were very understanding, patient, and the photographer was incredibly kind. Also, I got my proofs back in only a few days! Great service, would recommend to others.

My experience with this service was terrible! I had to get professional head shots done for work in June 2015. They were quick to take the photographs and bill me for the seating (an incredible amount-$166 for literally 5 minutes work), however when it came time to actually receive the photos they didn't respond to emails/phone calls etc.
It took me over a month to get a hold of anyone who would help. I was dealing with Jonathan Calnen, who as the owner you would expect the best service as it is the Calnen name at stake, however it was exactly the opposite. I had to contact someone else to even receive a call back from them, and all I wanted to do was order some prints to distribute to my professional organization….
I ended up ordering prints from Jonathan and of course he had printed of the incorrect ones, I required black/white and he had printed off colour prints- unbelievable. When I called to have the proper ones printed they said they would take care of it and I still haven't received the proper photos.
My seating was in early June, it is now mid-Sept….still NO PICTURES.

Graduating from Dalhousie, I was recommended by the school to take my portrait shots with Calnen. Naively, I didn't research the other options available. I arrived at the studio with a friend who also wanted portraits, and the staff were awesome at accommodating us both. We were able to sit in the room as the photographer worked, instructing the model on how to pose. He was friendly, honest and genuine, telling us what did/didn't look good on camera. The shots came out very well, and both of us were pleased! I opted to go with the larger package (+$4 I believe) allowing me thumbnails of 16 poses to take home and review. We were told that we would receive the thumbnails by email within a few business days. After a week, we called the studio curious as neither of us had yet received the photos. They quickly sent them along, attaching the order form. Packages begin at $59 and range up to $306 depending on desired sizes. It was only then that I realized it would not be possible to order prints of more than one pose within one package. For example, my family only wanted three 8x10 prints, but I would have had to purchase three separate units. 1 unit = 1-8x10, 2- 5x7, 4-4x6, 8-2x3. I would have also liked full-size digital copies of various unedited photo proofs (as opposed to the provided thumbnails), but again when requested, I was told that this was not available. An edited, print-quality digital file of one pose is $200 unless added to a package ($75). Although I liked the quality of service provided by Calnen Photography, I was left disappointed by their lack of flexibility in ordering prints.
