About Camp Hill Cemetery
Camp Hill Cemetery is a quiet, non-denominational burying place in the middle of the city, opened in 1844. Many gravestones are in poor condition due to HRM's neglect, but the cemetery still holds a wealth of history to explore. Visitors can discover the resting places of sailors, city leaders, Fathers of Confederation, civil rights pioneer Viola Desmond, and more. Though it may be overlooked, Camp Hill Cemetery is a treasure that deserves more appreciation as an interesting place to walk around and reflect.
