Halifax Backpackers Hostel is a budget dormitory accommodation with a great location, close to the waterfront, downtown, and many good restaurants, cafes, and bakeries. Staff are frequently described as friendly, nice, accommodating, and engaged. The hostel offers practical amenities like a coin laundry, a shared kitchen, and luggage storage after check-out. Some guests found it a nice and comfortable place for a short stay, with rooms and shower areas that were quite clean and well-maintained. However, numerous reviews highlight significant issues with maintenance and cleanliness. Many note the photos online are quite outdated and not an accurate depiction. The entire place is described as rough, outdated, and in need of a proper deep clean. Specific complaints include grimy fans, layers of dust and grime, potentially some mold, lifting tiles, broken furniture, and years of dust in corners. The kitchen is quite small and described as a miss. Beds are often creaky, with old pillows, uncomfortable mattresses, and thin, useless curtains. The patio area has broken chairs and poor vibes. There are also concerns about security, which is described as basically non-existent before evening, with unlocked rooms and no confirmation of stay required to enter. Noise from construction next door starts promptly at 7am. Air flow in rooms can be very poor, and window air conditioners are incredibly loud. The attached cafe is also described as a bit of a mess. Overall, while fine for a few days of sleeping if not using common spaces, many guests state they wouldn’t stay again unless the hostel undergoes significant renovation and deep cleaning. You get what you pay for.
Moving locally in Halifax was surprisingly easy with EcoWay. Jason and Ravi were punctual, careful with my items, and very professional. They finished faster than expected, and the price was fair. Everything arrived safely and organized.

The rooms are nice, I would recommend they get new pillows, they Ines they have currently seem a bit old. I would also recommend you bring a sleep mask. Staff was friendly and nice, asked questions and actually seemed engaged in my answers.

Great location, close to waterfront and downtown, also many good restaurants, cafe, and bakeries. I left my luggage with them after checking out, to freely go out. I had to tell them that the toilet paper in our room ver out for a day.
