About Wallace and Area Museum
The Wallace and Area Museum is housed in a heritage home built in 1839 by James B. Davison. Together with his brother David, they operated a successful shipyard on the property's waterfront that, at its height, built 6 ships a year. The property was donated to the province of Nova Scotia in the 1990s by the last living member of the Davison line. The museum opened its doors to the public in 1993 and has since undergone renovations, including the addition of an Annex in 2004 and a waterfront picnic park in 2019. Visitors can enjoy a guided tour, explore the local history, and take a peaceful walk on the grounds, which feature mature trees and medicinal plants. The museum offers free entry and a variety of interesting exhibits, from antique baskets to displays on the Nobel Prize winner for CCDs in modern cameras.
