Elizabeth’s Bookshop & Writing Centre is a Black-owned bookstore and literacy center that highlights and promotes writers of color, LGBTQ+, disabled, and other marginalized authors often excluded from mainstream conversations. Located inside Compass Coffee in the Middlebury neighborhood of Akron, Ohio, the shop features a regularly rotating catalog of titles and some fun gift items. The friendly staff are knowledgeable and offer helpful recommendations. A portion of proceeds supports The Loveland Foundation’s Therapy Fund for Black women, girls, and gender-expansive people. The shop is appreciated for its focus on minorities and its welcoming atmosphere.
