For quite a while this shop had slightly misleading "Elemental Arts" signage on its outside front wall... This didn't deter from exploring the goodies within, and thankfully it didn't!! This modern handmade furniture shop has an atmosphere that is incredibly inviting. There is a touch of organic furniture art produced by someone other than the owner, and with the two of the artists' products combined, this makes this a space that you just must come experience for yourself!! The discovery of this space was a key catalyst for the founding of Urbsee to allow others to more readily visually explore their world around them.

For high-end furniture that is made by an artist and master craftsman- this is the place. If you are looking for Thomas Moser, Strauss' elegant lines and subtle Art Deco aesthetic probably aren't for you. Strauss sells mostly "to the trade" via showrooms in Chicago and Miami but we made the drive from Philadelphia on the advice of a friend and were stunned by the beauty and quality of the work. Despite the fact that it is a relatively small shop and Strauss was obviously busy, we were treated to a excellent discussion of aesthetics, craftsmanship and materials (which we were relieved to discover are bought from truly sustainable timber resources). My wife and I are both in the design field and had been shopping for furniture for nearly a year before we found John Strauss so we are probably tougher customers than some. You can take a look at the website but if you get a chance- see the work in person- 'nough said.
