Hours: The Ross County Humane Society is an extraordinary organization that does remarkable work under incredibly difficult circumstances. Staffed by capable, compassionate professionals, the Humane Society has not only saved and improved countless lives, but has also grown into a modern, humane facility that allows staff and volunteers to care for more animals safely and responsibly. Behind the scenes, the dedicated team responds at all hours, enters unsafe and heartbreaking conditions, and works within legal constraints - yet they choose compassion over indifference, every single time. While the outcomes are not always what we wish for, the commitment to doing what is lawful, ethical, and humane never wavers. Visitors praise the Humane Society's cleanliness, lack of odor, and the staff's incredible kindness and expertise in matching animals with the right families. Many have had such positive experiences that they have returned to adopt additional pets, or have even driven from as far as Columbus to adopt from the Humane Society based on their excellent reputation. In the past year alone, the organization has helped over 1,200 dogs, not to mention countless cats and other animals. This represents lives saved, suffering reduced, and dignity preserved - all thanks to the staff and volunteers who absorb emotional and physical risk so the rest of the community doesn't have to.
