Such a great experience. Met the owner Gus who couldn’t have been nicer . He wouldn’t talk to us while he was helping his current customer which is as it should be . When he did talk to us he was lovely and told us the story of his relationship with Pavarotti . He is 90 and the store has been there since 1907 . They spent so much time with me, finding my size and letting me try on all the absolutely beautiful hats until I found the perfect one that looked great . For effect they ask you if you want a feather . How great is that! If you are in Cincinnati this is a must visit .

Love that this is STILL a family run business! Excellent service, we need more people running business like this family in Cincinnati.

They sell hats with a sour puss attitude and lack the the gaiety that a hat shop should express. I'm not buying a prison sentence for my head. Sorry I will go elsewhere.

Buying a hat this morning was a neat experience. The lady and gentleman were very interesting to talk with and very helpful in our first “nice” hat buying experience. So glad we made the trip!

Frenchy is the best! I've had several boots repaired and shined by him and they always turn out great. His location is very convenient if you work downtown. Ladies, if the metal is showing on your heels, this is the place to go. Quick service too.

Frenchy is great! Give the number listed here a call or a text and he’ll organize a free evaluation of the work you need done, pick up and drop off near where you live (I did Bataskes Hat Shop downtown), and he repaired my soles, heels, and reconditioned and shined my beloved booties for $30! Cannot recommend enough, will definitely be coming back with another pair soon and sharing with fam and friends!

Heel broke off my boot on a business trip to Cincy. He gave me fast, same day service and even went out of his way to get them back to me when I needed them. Got a super shine, blackened soles, and weatherproofing. An honorable man who takes care of people.

Gus and Batsakes is a Cincinnati legend and icon. Gus's craftsmanship, handmade hats are not just to proudly wear, but collect and handdown to become family collectables. Aside from his incredible artistry, just having an intelligent and warm conversation with him is worth the visit. He may be one of the very last of his breed in the hand-made custom hat business. Gus plans to work until he's 100, and there's no doubt he will. (A very happy repeat customer.)

This is the only place in Cincinnati to get a proper hat. Good people, quality product, and personal service.

NO LONGER PROVIDE hat cleaning, blocking and repair. I also suspect they do not appreciate female customers.I have an Australian Akubra which is a family heirloom, in excellent condition. Took it in to have cleaned and blocked along with another hat to have the band reattached and cleaned/blocked. I walked in while a gentleman was being helped. I was not greeted by Gus or the sales woman. I walked around in the store considering a new hat for myself. I was not asked if I needed any help. After standing at the counter for about 5 minutes, I took out the hats from my bag and set them on the counter, again patiently waiting. I had plenty of time to wait. Sales woman from across the store shook her head at me and loudly said 'We DON'T clean hats!'. I asked if they did blocking and repairs. Again shaking her head at me 'No no no'. No offer to help me with anything else. Even though they saw me look at other hats. I really had the feeling that it was her way to shoo me from the store. Mind you I was dressed business casual, having just come from my office.I was shocked, but then again not so shocked. About 4 years ago I went in the store to buy several gift certificates and they were not welcoming to me then. Seemed very suspicious of my generous purchase. When my husband and I returned a month later to spend the certificates on $2,000 worth of hats, they were very nice to my husband, but not so much to me.

My wife and I went to the store to look at hats. I really wasn’t sure what I wanted; however I thought we would be able to get some suggestions. All we got was rude treatment from the woman who I assume owns/works at the store. I haven’t been treated so badly in a very long time. And I will NEVER return to the store.

Poor customer service. Unfortunately, I believe it was a race thing being that the Owners were reluctant to speak to me, assist me or answer any questions. Very rude!! I guess it was NOT meant for me to buy a hat THERE today!

Had heard about this place for years. Stopped in and saw Gus today. Both him and the lady that helped us(didn't catch her name) were excellent. She showed my wife and I a very large selection of hats. They both talked to us like we were long time customers and were extremely pleasant and helpful.
