This might be long but I want to make sure my review highlights how the world of retail pharmacy works and how Hyde Park Kroger stands out from its competitors. I want to start this review off with the fact that I understand how busy, hectic, and frustrating it must be to work in a retail pharmacy. In my 3 or so years of experience with Kroger’s retail pharmacy, I’ve observed a dedicated team working tirelessly to serve their customers. The challenges of being overworked and understaffed (factors beyond their control) and dealing with the public, often translate into extended wait times and occasional misunderstandings. It’s evident that the employees are doing their best with the resources available.Expressing empathy towards the staff during these challenging times has been my approach, understanding that their workload may lead to longer wait times or minor hiccups. Responding to any situation with patience, kindness, and understanding not only makes their job easier but also fosters a more positive atmosphere.Drawing from my own experience with chronic illness and filling around 20 prescriptions per month for the past eight years (at basically every retail pharmacy that exists in several states), I can empathize deeply with the frustrations that come with this process. As a customer, it often feels like we become the middleman between the doctor, insurance company, and the pharmacy. The need to make phone calls to all parties just to get a prescription filled can be incredibly time consuming and stressful. It's important to recognize that the system itself poses significant challenges, and the employees, likely working for a low and possibly unfair wage, are doing their best within these constraints. The complexities of coordinating information between different entities in the prescription process can be overwhelming, and I believe there is more to be done that is outside of the scope of the employees working in the retail pharmacy. If these systemic issues are ever resolved I believe it would greatly improve the overall experience for both customers and hardworking pharmacy staff at Kroger and all pharmacies for that matter.I’ll end with this, if you have read this far thank you lol. I have experienced the worst of the worst pharmacies. I have cried, I have been yelled at, I have been scammed, and when I go to Kroger I never have to worry about that happening. I know the employees will be considerate and will do whatever needs to be done on their end to get the prescription filled. There may be hiccups along the way but that is the case with every prescription at every pharmacy and it’s just something is second nature with filling prescriptions. But I appreciate the staff at Kroger always being willing to help and being friendly and kind while doing so.

The staff at this Kroger's are notably unconcerned about customer service. They stand around talking to each other, badmouthing customers, and/or looking at their phones. There doesn't seem to be much management either. On the few occasions when I have tried to be constructive in my feedback to a manager I felt as though I were talking to a wall. The work ethic at this place is abysmal overall. The pharmacy department, although fairly courteous and fairly well organized is the slowest Pharmacy I have ever seen. And what's with the fact that you still can't drop off your prescription or pick it up outside? What about those of us who are disabled, and for whom it is difficult to park a car and get inside?

I'm pretty sure they could double the size of this Kroger and it would still be a zoo. Granted we came on a Sunday afternoon, but still...we could barely make our way through the store without bumping into people. Doesn't help that the store layout is not designed for flow but rather to cram as much stuff into the place. I'm guessing it was design by the same person who did the layout of the parking lot...also a mess. They were out of several produce items and couldn't keep up with stocking, so we eventually just put everything back and left for a different location. Save yourself the stress and do the same.

My main complaint has to do with the pharmacy. My surgeon called in pain medication the day I had surgery and it wasn't available for 24 hours. He called in a refill at followup 10 days later to a DIFFERENT pharmacy, and it was ready within 30 minutes. It's a good store for groceries, though the layout of the store has me baffled.

If I could leave zero stars, I would. I called with questions regarding a new prescription and the person who I spoke to gave me almost no help, and before I could finish asking a follow up question, I was hung up on. It's been like this at each Kroger Pharmacy location I've been to. I get that we're all overworked and exhausted, but don't be a jerk on top of it.

This is the worst pharmacy I have ever visited. Be prepared for up to 30m waits in line to pickup prescriptions that are already filled. Because they are literally that slow...The only reason to make this your pharmacy is because its close to your house and you get Kroger rewards. If you care about quick in/out service, visit the local CVS instead. And on the last visit, the filled only 3/4 prescriptions, despite having over 6hr time, and the missing prescription caused me to deal with their long line. They are inept.

WORST PHARMACY EVER. Do not get your prescription filled here. They tell you it’s going to be ready when you get there every single time then you end up waiting in line for them to tell you “it’s not ready and I’ll be 30 minutes “ They also send you text alerts that things are ready when they aren’t. The staff does not care, no urgency or sense of customer service.

I’ve never had such poor experience with any pharmacy. If you call, you’re lucky to be put on hold until it automatically disconnects you. They didn’t have one of my prescriptions and I tried calling for days and left messages and no one got back to me. Come to find out it was out of stock but nobody let me know that either.

Prescriptions are never ready on time, most of the time takes 2+ hours.Lines are normally 6-7 long with only one person working the counter.Save yourself time and just go somewhere else.

Their definition of "auto refill" is fill it when they feel like it. I've heard them say before while I've been standing in line that they don't actually want to be there doing their job and that people should be grateful that they are even there. Kroger needs to hire new people that actually feel like showing up to work and doing their job.

I understand that there were multiple new people on staff, and that running my insurance seemed to pose a challenge or a learning experience, but I was not listened to or treated fairly. I was picking up prescriptions for a sick child and instead of fixing a mistake and running my insurance again, I was simply told that I needed to pay cash for a medicine or wait “a week,” for a prior-authorization to go through on a sick child’s medication. They were so busy, so understaffed and so short on medication— none of which is anyone’s fault, of course—but this mistake should have been corrected. Not everyone has the money to pay for a mistake like this. A little respect and time goes a long way. I will not be filling any more prescriptions at this location.

Things seem to continue to slide downhill at the Hyde Park Kroger. What was once (what I considered) the best Kroger in the area is slowly joining the ranks of nearby stores. Trashy, never enough open lines, and poor customer service across the board. Please don't say 'short staffed' as I observed 3-4 employees collecting carts spend 20-30 minutes to move 20 carts into the store. All were at or near all the trash, and aware. Half that time spent on cell phones, and goofing off. Have fun at work, but without management guidance this will not change. Seen more of the same with cashiers and baggers (when there is one) on cell phones, and paying little or no attention to customer service.

It took me a bit to orient myself having never been to this location before & looking for something as random as I was (Ghostbusters themed lottery tickets), but once I did, I was pretty impressed with how clean, orderly, & well laid out this Kroger is. Sadly, my satisfaction ended there, as I did not leave a lottery winner. Parking here wasn't pleasant. I can't imagine it ever is.
