Needs updated. Has the basics but old. Surprisingly small for how big the school is.

This is the pool and fitness center for Xavier University. It has a weight room, a room for cardio upstairs, an Olympic sized indoor pool. And several basketball courts. And probably some other stuff I don't know about. It's free for Xavier Students but everyone else needs a paid membership. The locker rooms and weight room area a little dated, serviceable but not shiny and new or even particularly nice. They have showers, no sauna. Bring your own towel.

Limited hours of availability for the pool since the swim team and rentals use it much of the time.

It's a gym. It's going to smell sweaty. It's got everything a gym should have - weight room, swimming pool, treadmills/ellipticals, basketball courts, etc. The reason for 4 stars is because of parking. You are likely to be ticketed for parking there unless you have a Faculty/Staff pass. (Just go after 6 to avoid getting ticketed)

As a former undergrad and current graduate student at Xavier I have used this gym for years. I must say you're not getting anything flashy exercising here. While this gym is Xavier University's workout facility it is also open to the community. O'Connor Sports Center is a wonderfully affordable solution for your gym needs and if you're one of those people who enjoys anonymity when working out and appreciates the ability to exercise in a ripped t-shirt covered in paint then, well, this is your place. Frankly this gym could be worse as the equipment is fairly updated, there are multiple pools, clean locker rooms, weight rooms, and fitness classes. I've worked out in gyms that could eat O'Connor for breakfast but regardless this place has a very local feel and you will enjoy the laid back feel of this gem. Bring a water bottle because the vending machine is $1.50!

I am mostly just going to echo what Jessalynn S. has said. I, too, get the special Xavier discount, and that makes the gym worthwhile for me. It does have plenty of equipment, though it can get crowded. The staff is lovely and accommodating. I particularly love going to the gym at about 7am when it's mostly empty and hasn't had a chance to reach a sweltering boil in terms of air temperature. The air circulation is awful, and if you happen to be at the gym at 7pm on a weeknight, you'll know what I mean. But, yes, you do at least sweat away a few pounds.

I spend a lot of time here, but that doesn't mean I particularly like it. O'Connor has one big thing going for it: It's cheap. As a faculty member at Xavier, I pay $100/year for my membership here. You can't beat that with a stick, so I'm willing to put up with some shortcomings - ok, a lot of shortcomings. The huge, huge problem here is air circulation. Even during the winter months, O'Connor has a big problem with temperature and air flow. They have a few standing AC units, but in such a big room they're pretty ineffective. I only joined in November and shudder to think what this place will be like over the summer. I fondly refer to it as my "Bikram gym experience" - if nothing else, maybe I sweat away a few extra pounds or something. The machines are a little on the older side, and so there are usually one or two out of service at a time for repairs. There are some nice TVs in the cardio room and the staff is pretty amenable when you ask for one of them to be changed, etc. The bottom line is that this is a great gym if you get the discounted price for folks affiliated with Xaivier, but if not, you're probably best to look somewhere else.

O Connor sports center is Xavier University's gym, but the gym also caters to the surrounding communities of Norwood and Evanstan and anyone can apply for a membership. Xavier students and faculty can use the center free of charge during the school year while those who are not affiliated with the university pay $425 for a year pass. The sports center is huge and features three swimming pools, a locker room, two weight rooms, a cardio room, a spinning studio, and classrooms for fitness instruction. Classes are offered every week and include Yoga, Kickboxing, Pilates, Belly Dancing, and Water Aerobics. The center is usually most crowded between 4-8, as well as early in the morning. O Connor is open 5:45AM-8PM Monday-Thursday, 5:45AM-7PM Friday, and 10am-7PM on Saturdays. The gym is closed on Sundays.
