The short story - they left my dog muzzled, alone, and locked in a room for over 4 hours with no food or water. If I could leave 0 stars I would. 😡
The people who answer the phone are friendly, but that’s about where my goodwill stops. I could write an essay and I am still so upset this was permitted to happen - and really disturbed that no one seemed overly concerned that it occurred. I could hear him nonstop whining the second I walked in the door - there’s no way he *wasn’t* heard in the 4 hours he was there.
(Btw, their vet was the one who strongly suggested I get the basket muzzle because it would help him with the anxiety and make it less oppositional for the staff to administer sedative.)
I am 100% sensitive that emergencies happen and visitors are triaged, with more serious cases getting prompt care. That is NOT the issue. The issue is that, yes, while severe cases -very rightfully - receive priority, the other animals in your care should be maintained safely. If he couldn’t be serviced and it was impossible to contain him in a manner sufficient to my dog’s welfare then I simply should have been notified so I could come collect him.
They push the “drop off, pick up” service on the website, on the phone, and in their marketing - beware if this is their standard of care. If I hadn’t come to pick him up as arranged on my lunch hour would he have stayed that way for another 4 hours?
And when I dropped off this morning I thought it was bad that the vet was late and it was estimated my costs would be $100 more than when I’d originally called and inquired. The vet tech was stuck in the middle, since the vet hadn’t arrived she was trying to provide the estimate but she’s not certified to do so, as she said. When I had questioned the vast discrepancy the tech indicated that the people who answer the phones don’t always know what they’re talking about. So also watch out for that. 🙄
I missed almost 2 hours of work, my animal was distraught, and the knowledge that my scared dog was stuck in a hard plastic muzzle, alone and PETRIFIED, without food or water and whining nonstop made me feel so upset, angry, and guilty that I trusted Banfield.
If you want a laugh, when I called their corporate office (I was not going to go off on a student tech and a receptionist who aren’t in charge) the woman who took the information told me at one point that if I didn’t hear back from higher up in 3-5 business days that I should email back to “light a fire.” I told her that if what occurred didn’t bother them enough to reach me in 3-5 business days that I wouldn’t be emailing, I would instead be contacting the BBB.
This isn’t the first frustration that I’ve had with Banfield but it *will* be the last. I can’t imagine ever, ever opening my mouth to recommend them, let alone considering trusting any living thing to them, ever again.
I contacted VCA today and was promptly and professionally assisted. If you’re reading this I would strongly suggest contacting VCA or literally anywhere else.

Took a pup in that was vomiting and just looked sick. They said he had worms and sent us out with meds. Meds were given as instructed. Next appointment I demanded a poop test, the assistant stated he was clean of worms. Weeks later he began having similar symptoms I sent him back and the vet claimed he must've swallowed a household item. I assured them there was no way he did as I have monitored him the entire time he was out of his kennel. I was then told if I don't do the X-ray (or whatever they call it) they would not serve me or my pup. This is while I am paying $70+ a month for their plan. They do the X-ray and sure enough he doesn't have any foreign objects (almost like I said that!) and it is determined he still has worms. Horrible service horrible people and a scam at the very least. Also the vet will not stutter to upgrade your plan but then claim they can't downgrade it and to downgrade per the support you have to pay off any remaining differences at that time!

Friendly, but not responsive. They don't return phone call. I waited over a week to see if they would return my call. You literally have to go into the office to talk to them.

Took my kitten in when they were offering a free first exam. The vet barely looked at him. The door to the exam room was old, and wouldn't stay shut, There was a large dog in the lobby that kept trying to get in. It didn't upset my kitten too much, but I imagine something like that could be traumatizing to other pets.

I'd give no stars if I could, they missed a cancer diagnosis on my cat, we took him in several times, they said his blood work is fine, and they said it might be parasites or ibd. Finally they referred us to medvet where we had to pay 1000 dollars for an ultrasound, they then found a tumor and said his gi tract is ate up with lymphoma, they then proceeded to try to persuade me to spend 3300 dollars on a biopsy to be sure, I said no, they gave us steroids and anti nausea meds to keep him comfortable, Finally he went downhill we decided to put him down, they wouldn't even get ahold of the cremation place for us! Now when our dog died from pancreatitis which they didn't help us with, they at least contacted the place for us, vets these days are all about getting your money, I won't bring another animal to this one again though.

During the process of my daughter's puppy they gave us a very high level of confidence that she were in the best hands possible. The next day follow-up call meant a lot to us. It's been 5 days since our visit and they continue to check in on her.

This place is a joke! I took my new puppy here with concerns MULTIPLE TIMES and they MISSED DIAGNOSED HER FOR AN ENTIRE MONTH AND SAID SHE WAS FINE! Then they finally gave me answers and sent me to Medvet! At Medvet we were told there was a chance my dog wouldn’t make it even if we gave them the $6000 for critical care! We even had the talk of putting her down because she was so sick!! I would NEVER recommend this place unless you just need shots!
