This bank deserves zero stars. They recently “lost” my deposited paycheck (only to “find”It weeks later); customer service is terrible; branch staffing turnover is very high, and tellers aren’t well-trained; fees are exorbitant; debit cards don’t offer tap payments; and the on-line banking system is the worst I’ve used. In sum, First Merchants provides few of the services or reliability of the big banks, yet lacks the friendliness and customer service of smaller community banks. Go elsewhere.

I wish everyone was more confidently trained in the Cash Advance process. Otherwise, I am still banking with First Merchants. Not blown away. Not super disappointed.

Cooper State was Great, but since they became First Merchants it has been so difficult to justify keeping this account.

Nicholas Downing was very helpful with setting up my login and other online tasks. Nice to have good customer service!

Gave teller my check to deposit to my account & license, 14 mins later and no communication back, I had to ask what what the problem was? Did not take time to ask me any questions about the actual structure and signing authority on my accounts ....thought I was writing myself a check??? 2nd time I’ve dealt w a manager at this branch that couldn’t understand checks from LLC to LLC. Multiple issues w this branch. I’ll stick to Grandview branch...they are competent.

Do your self a favor and bank elsewhere. The technology the bank uses is ten years behind. Plus unlike other banks they don’t protect your money they try and embezzle your hard earned cash. There is a reason they are a small bank. That reason is they suck.

This bank is horrible to work with. I'm using them for a business account and cannot wait to close it after tax season and move on to a bank that knows what they are doing. Any request of any kind goes unanswered and it appears their staff are only trained to they "can't do that." Their online system is one of the worst I've ever seen from any institution at this point, let alone a bank. Please do not open an account with them, you will regret every moment.

Recently sold a house where First Merchants was the mortgage lender. The closing company confirmed wiring them the money, however they have continued to bill me and indicate they have no record of receiving the payment. While I'm sure this is just grievous incompetence and not a literally criminal Wells Fargo style attempt to blatantly steal money from a customer, and will probably be resolved without me having to resort to actual legal threats, I'm still gonna go with 1 star for having to spend hours on the phone with this bank talking to person after person who could not verify whether on not they received a federally insured wire transfer and who refused to just cancel auto pay on the mortgage that should no longer exist. Update: 72 hours and they have confirmed that they received $172000 to pay off the mortgage but refuse to confirm to me that they have closed the loan, still have not confirmed that they have stopped the automatic billing, and still have not refunded me the $1900 that they charged after the loan was paid off. I retract my certainty that this is all just incompetence. They may just be very intentionally stealing money from customers. Stay away.

Great people here who care about their customers. I will say their hours being reduced was a bummer. I hope they consider going back to their old hours, but I own a business and for the sake of my employees, I have shorter hours so I understand.

I have only been to the Clintonville location, but I can honestly say that I have had nothing but great experiences there. The staff have always been friendly and knowledgeable. Many of the staff know me by name when I enter, which I truly appreciate.

I joined years ago when they were CS bank. I loved it then, they had great hours and very friendly staff. When first merchants bought them all that changed and they became just any other unfriendly Bank. I left them within 5 months of their transition and doubt I'd ever go back.

My husband & I decided to go with Cooper State Bank because there were a number of branches close to us, the hours were fantastic and because we were seniors, we didn't have to pay for our checks. Since becoming First Merchant's bank, the hours are the same as any other bank and now I will have to pay $26 for checks. Thinking seriously of changing financial institutions.
