Price is good but that’s about it. Never had a storage unit with no on site staff and limited hours to enter. You need a gate code to exit and if you stay past 9 pm apparently you’re trapped inside until morning lol although I’ve seen people in there past 9 pm. A bunch of units look like they were burnt down . Just moved in 2 days ago moving out next month

To those of you who are considering renting a space from Public Storage, be aware that the price of your unit over time is not what you may think. Be prepared for frequent and substantial price increases. I rented a 10’x25’ space at the Billingsley Road location in 2020 that doubled in price over the next four years — ultimately I was paying $454.68 for that space. I moved out last month. That size space is being advertised at $155/mo (discounted) from $194/mo, leading you to believe $194 is the full price. No, it isn’t. I had been paying over $400/mo for quite some time and just got sick of being gouged. FYI, apartment rents in this area range from approximately $1.50/mo to $2.00/mo per square foot — my storage space ultimately cost $1.82/mo per square foot. To illustrate how outrageous that is, at that price a 1200 square foot residential apartment would cost $2184/mo. The space itself was in poor condition. The interior walls are corrugated metal that don’t go all the way to the roof. The top of the walls are open to your neighbors’ spaces. The sprayed on insulation on the ceiling was constantly falling off and covering our stuff in layers of dirt, dust, and chunks of cellulose insulation. I will say that the grounds outside the units was kept clean, and they are about to seal the asphalt. My move out last month was complicated by a fire around June 28/29 at this facility that appeared to consume several spaces in one of the buildings near mine. According to the staff, the Fire Department ordered the site closed for an inspection, which interrupted our move-out, forcing me to rent a moving van for an additional day (& expense) we hadn’t planned. Ok, stuff happens — however access was closed early on June 29 through the morning of June 30. By the time we verified we could access the property and made last minute arrangements for a rental van, we finished our move by around 6:30pm on (Sunday) the 30th. The date is important because the rent cycle begins on the 1st of the month. I cleaned my space, removed my lock, and had previously notified them of our move-out. Despite following Public Storage’s procedure for moving out I received an email from Public Storage attempting to bill me an additional $439 payable that day, July 1st. Why that specific amount I don’t know. This forced me to drop everything and go back to the facility to straighten it out. Despite assurances from the staff that the restricted access from the fire would not cause a problem for those of us moving out, they still tried to charge me for what I assumed was meant to be rent for July. Fortunately, an employee in the office straightened it out and the charge was removed.
We rented that space under the duress of the Covid pandemic in 2020. Normally I would just move on from this sort of thing without saying much, but I felt compelled to share my experience so that those of you who are choosing a storage space go into it with open eyes. Hopefully you’ll be prepared for the reality of it, otherwise know that you will likely be paying much more than the advertised price in short order for a space that isn’t worth it.
