I reached out about a Prius that was still in transit. The salesman repeatedly said they could not sell it at invoice because the car had not arrived yet, but that they might consider it if it showed up and no one bought it. That is not a real answer, it is just kicking the decision down the road.
This made no sense to me. I bought the exact same car five months ago from another dealer while it was still in transit. We negotiated everything by email and text, and when I came in all I had to do was sign the paperwork. So saying it cannot be done is simply not true.
If you do not want to sell a car at a certain price, just say no. Do not drag the conversation out with vague promises about what might happen later. It wastes time and feels dishonest.
