We made a special trip out for our anniversary. We were especially excited about the hot tub and pool, since with 2 toddlers we rarely get to relax around water. Our tower room was lovely ?-- though the private balcony was not much use in the rain, the fireplace made it incredibly cozy. The steeply angled ceilings are a cautionary note for tall folk, however! But we were extremely disappointed by the "hot" tub, which was a small pool of lukewarm water. The surface was completely still bc the jets were turned so low, and it wasn't even as warm as a normal bath. One of the other guests contacted the castle, and were told "that's just how it is for liability reasons." Which, of course, is nonsense--other hotels manage to maintain hot tubs for guest use. And we would have stayed in one of those instead, had we only known.

Went for a holiday weekend trip w the BF.I just want to point out, please safety first. The roads to and from the castle are skinny and very dark at night (there aren’t lights or anything). It’s all good if people drive in a reasonable speed limit, but at times, these huge suv’s and trucks speed by these roads. Especially the entrance/exit to the castle..The grounds and christmas lights are beautiful. Love the look of the room, too! My bf commented about feeling like a king while staying in the castle. But then, at night, the room got REALLY hot. Come to find out you can’t change the temperature of the room.. So we just opened the door and left the door slightly open. It was freezing outside, so the temps canceled each other, and the room felt tolerable.Overall, it was ok.. but i do think that it’s overpriced. ? $550 for one night.. the dining experience isn’t the best.. our stay was not the most comfortable..

It was a nightmare on my Anniversary. Lots of dead bugs like Millipede in the room. Some kind of sewage or dirt gushes or poop out of the jets of the jacuzzi… It smelled sticky and I almost threw up… I don’t even wanna recall the whole experience again when all the dirt splashed out… It could probably be the grossest experience so far in my life…

The grounds were nice and enjoyable (good Christmas lights), the food at their restaurant was hot and tasty, the service was good overall (except when we were told we’d get crayons for the kids at dinner and were promptly forgotten about), and the rooms were unique (the bathroom sink didn’t drain well). However, we stayed in the room for one night and the goal of that night was to get sleep…which we could not do due to the fiery EXIT sign from hell! It was SO bad. We called the desk before they closed for the night and asked about it, and they said it was required for fire code. Does the fire code demand our eyes being burned out? If so, success. It was so ridiculous! Room 14: don’t book it.Also, the mattress wasn’t great and there was no shoe mat inside the door, which would’ve been helpful.Very, very expensive for what we got, sadly.

HUGE Letdown!! This place, this experience, this restaurant - they promote and sell it like it is 5 star worthy. Only to find out that all it has to offer is worth less than 1 star.Let me 1st say - the grounds, the buildings, and the landscape is all beautiful and well maintained. And that is it.I planned the evening for my wife & I to celebrate the holidays and their Christmas Kingdom of Lights. I chose to go on a Thursday because they charge $10 to get on the property on Fri & Sat. And I wasn't quite sure why. When we arrived, we walked in to the lobby. The website said there are grounds to walk to see lights, over 100,000 of them, with Christmas trees and a gift shop. Also, to visit the Copper Mug restaurant for some delicious food in a beautiful environment. Lies! The woman working in the lobby didn't greet us. In fact, we looked awkwardly around the lobby and then had to approach her. She was not friendly nor helpful and looked like this was the last place she wanted to be. Zero personality and very unapproachable. I asked where gift shop was; she said along the back wall. We looked....it is NOT a gift shop. It is a few shelves with souvenirs. Literally maybe 10 overpriced items on a few shelves. Not a shop - more like a gift corner. Shame. Aside from the obnoxiously fast blinking lights that surround part of the castle (extremely displeasing to the eye), the castle was decorated pretty and the stage set up for Santa and Mrs. Claus were sweet (Santa only comes Fri & Sat - must be what the $10 is for. You pay $10 to see Santa...ripoff).What we had really came for was the Copper Mug. We had seen the Hotel Hell episode back when it 1st aired in 2016. I was looking forward to eating at this newly designed menu, sit in the beautiful ambiance of the restaurant. The old inn feeling, with candles and a homey feeling. Nice, comfy chairs with beautiful place settings and an intimate setting. We walked to the restaurant and upon reaching the doors, you can see that the walkway to The Copped Mug has a red velvet rope blocking the entrance, forcing you to enter the banquet/event hall. When we walked thru the doors, we were greeted at a makeshift host stand and could see that the very large ballroom/event hall had various table sizes set up with banquet chairs and table cloths. I asked the host,."Is this the Copper Mug". "It is" he replied, very jovial and almost obnoxious. I said to him that I made reservations for The Copper Mug and no where on website or booking site does it say the actual restaurant is closed. We were escorted to a table in the corner. The far back corner. Where we saw others come in after us and receive servers with drinks. We were ignored however. And upon looking at the menu, it is not a complete menu. It is a shortened holiday menu. Now, let me explain - see, I read and re-read the website and I even called weeks ago and asked if it was the regular menu. All yes's. Then, that day, just 20 min before our reservation, I asked staff if it was regular menu or holiday menu. I was told Holiday menu is on Fri & Sat. Now - back to table. So menu...it is holiday menu. Done. Out of here.We got up and walked over to the makeshift server/bar station is and complained. We never were served and people after us were. We were told it was a regular menu, it is not. There are missing items. We are sitting in a giant event hall, like at a wedding reception. Expect colder and more lackluster. And why would I pay $45.00 for a steak when I have zero doubt it will be good. Nothing else this place sold us to be has turned out accurate in the least bit. So why would I spend over $100 possibly on dinner when I am sitting in a giant event hall. I was half surprised there wasn't a giant dance floor and a DJ for us all. What the heck do they charge $10 to get on the property for?!? The host was snarky, rude and pretentious. The manager looked like he was totally baffled at sort of apologetic. Pathetic. Absolutely a huge waste of time, gas money and energy to go there.

What a cool place to see and visit! It looks like an old style, Bavarian mini castle. Decorated with Christmas lights, the ambience is so calm, peaceful and fun. I took a lot of pictures here. Such an idyllic view everywhere you can turn. We went inside the gift shop and got a couple of items to commemorate our visit! You can stay as it is a hotel venue, and it comes highly recommended by the locals.Perhaps if I'm back in this area, I'll do a stay in one of the rooms. But this time we just visited and took in the serene ambience. This place would be perfect for a small wedding and it's my understanding that they do host them on occasion. Recommend stopping by and visiting sometime!! You won't be disappointed with the old European charm!

Such a bipolar express of an experience. Absolutely loved the look of the castle with all of the lights. Lobby staff was nice a d friendly. Welcomed us and told us about the grounds. Our room, fit for a king and a queen. The Hardesty. Disappointed with the jet tub, but that wasn't too bad. Now.. the downhill skid.. the restaurant. They are trying so hard to be an upscale restaurant. However, they are failing and failing miserably. I have had 10 dollar steaks better than their $50 steak. No flavor and some disgusting thin gravy like juice poured over it.. terrible.. Roger, God bless him tried so hard and did so well. We still tipped him well although our experience wasn't great! Whoever manages restaurant is singlehandedly destroying repeat business. I hope they figure this out. The blueberry jam however was dang good.. ?Rooms: Love the feel of the castle and the rooms. Beautiful architecture.Food & drinks: Bring your own food.

Beautiful setting. Clean room. Cold water in the shower and jetted tub. If you pay extra to have dinner in the dome, be prepared to smell plastic instead of your very expensive meal. Beautiful to visit to see the scenery but the accommodations are not worth the room prices.

Way overpriced lodging experience. Best features were the heated tile floors (except the grout needs cleaned properly), the grounds, and the Copper Mug. In-room jacuzzi tub was too narrow to enjoy and the gas was not turned on yet so no fireplace - oh and our heater was broke so no heat either unless you count the small electric radiator oil-heater from Walmart. The GM gave my wife a GC (can only use it at the castle not at Copper Mug) instead of stepping up like he said he would do and giving her a credit back for the room rate. We spent 2-nights there.

this is a BEAUTIFUL PLACE! we went on a girl's weekend ..stayed in the stable rooms ..very ,very nice! did a murder mystery dinner ...food was very good! we stopped at the bar before dinner it was amazing also! I can't say that for the actors of the murder mystery! it was not well planned out ,poor acting ,poor story ,boring boring boring! could not follow what was going on .I will NEVER nor will the other three girls EVER attend anything that the CANDLELIGHT PLAYERS are putting on! it was just super confusing ,boring, and quite frankly stupid! But if u get a chance to stay or just visit the Castle do so! You won't be disappointed! it's beautiful!Rooms: rooms in the stables were beautiful! big rooms! large bathroom!Walkability: loved the walk through the falling leaves to visit the cemetery, and then walk to the bar and the ballroom!Food & drinks: main course in ballroom for murder mystery was very good ..the salad was limp from sitting to long on table and cake was dried out from the same

Our family of 10 had a special Thanksgiving dinner at the Copper Mug. surprisingly had to pay $10 per car to park for starters. the grounds were decorated nice but nothing above ordinary. dinner was limited to 7 or 8 entree selections. Kids meals included a corn dog and fries for a ridiculous price. when served it was so over cooked hot dog was charred. Schnitzel was also over cooked and mashed potatoes were runny. won't be going back. as they say , been there done that.

We did not stay here but just came to this beautiful place to visit and look around. There was an event going on but still a few rooms where open to walk around to and visit. Each room is different from the others. It was a nice little area to just see. Beautiful architecture and landscape.Rooms: Each room is different, from the floors and ceilings to the color and style. All very beautiful and luxurious. Many rooms I noticed had jacuzzi bathtubs and standing showers. Some where suits and a few where doubles.Safety: Super safe and quiet in the area. Room service is always available. Parking is in different areas of the property.Walkability: It is very nice to walk around the courtyards and from one room to another. All the rooms are separate and only a handful are clustered together. The main castle has something like 11-13 rooms. The rest are all separate not connected to the castle.Food & drinks: There are a few restaurants in the area. We are at one of the smaller restaurants. The lobster bisque was very tasty. The prices where not expensive and happy hour was fun.Noteworthy details: Architecture of this place is really cool. Reading about the man who built the castle is neat. He got inspired in Germany.

Gorgeous setting, exterior landscaping and building very well-kept. However, that's where the honeymoon ended. Staff seemed disinterested at best, with the exception of Roger, our waiter at the Copper Mug. He was a delight! Room was beautiful, but poorly maintained. Blood stain on the coverlet of the bed, dripping shower head was maddening at night, freezer was all frosted over, sink drain was mostly clogged, toilet didn't flush well, cracked sink, and the tub jets and body sprays were broken with a sign saying 'please don't use'. The pool area was very cool, but the "hot tub" was essentially a hot bath. I asked how to turn on the jets, they said "There are none, the water just 'percolates'". It HAD jets, they were just not functional. The Copper Mug Restaurant was disappointing as well. From the apathetic hostess to the indifferent manager, I've had better service at Bob Evans. While waiting for a table, we sat at the bar for about 15 minutes without being acknowledged or offered a drink. I get it, places are understaffed, but to have waitstaff literally standing in front of you without as much as a hello is just weird. And lastly, the bathroom was filthy, just to add to the experience.Overall, for the HUGE price tag, this was a colossal disappointment. I'd try Glen Laurel in Hocking Hills, similar price, so much better.
