I just want to get it out to the public about donating to non-profit organizations. I lived in Florida. I owned a business there. I would donate every year to the red cross.$500. . One year lost everything in a hurricane. I needed emergency help. They give you a list of organizations that help if your address is in a declared national disaster area. The 3 top organizations on the list are red cross, goodwill, and salvation army. The house I was renting flooded 4' high. You can't salvage a lot of items do to contamination in the water. Sewage, pesticides and other chemicals. FEMA goes around with garbage trucks and inspect your belongings. They either load them up in the garage trucks or if your location allows it, they burn it, so you won't sell it later to someone not aware it is contaminated. So then they list what you lost and you take the list to the non-profit organization that are to help you get items you need. I called Red Cross, remember I donated $500. A year to them for 18 years. They refused to help me because I wasn't a home owner. They said they don't help people who rent. So I called Goodwill, they said they had everything I needed. When I got there they made me go over the items and sign a paper. Then gave me a receipt and said pay the amount at the bottom. We were told by FEMA that it was free help. So I didn't take the items. I called salvation army. They told me to go to nearest salvation army store with my ID. If my address was in the disaster zone, everything I needed would free. So I went to there store with my list. Everything they had on my list was free. What they didn't have, they put me on a list and had trucks bring items for up north to us. Also if we still didn't complete are in a couple days they gave us money vouchers to local stores. I lost everything I had in 3 different hurricanes. Nobody but salvation army helps people for free. They never let me down. So remember if you donate money or items to help someone in need. I know the only organization that helps people get back on their feet for free is salvation army. Oh and by the way, I that red cross were volunteers, the higher up people's salaries are $300,000.00 and up per year. Your donation are going in there pockets. Not to help the ones in need. By the way I would do there job for $60,000 a year. That shows you, it's not about helping and giving. To them, It's all about making us believe are donation are being used to help ones in need. Are government needs to put a limit on yearly salaries of people who work for non-profit organizations. Maybe I should start a non-profit organization and pay myself 50% of the donation received yearly.
