We stopped here to hike. Trails are well maintained and marked. Worth a stop to hike with your dog for a travel break off 71. About six miles off interstate.

Very nice campground, staff is very friendly every time we have been there. Most of the campsites are very small and too closely packed together except for sites around 40 and 41. Very kid friendly!!Restrooms: They have "flushies" !!!!

Couple of short trails. The views are good. I wouldn’t drive from far away just to hike here bits it’s nice to have somewhere local. There are no signs prohibiting dogs on the trails.

Great place for such a small park. Small lake but great fishing for bluegill perch and catfish. Has a kayak launch and great sunset and sunsets over the lake. The trails are wooded and beautiful with some decent hiking and hills. One of my favorite places in the area with many full hook up sites and covered picnic sites and a couple of playgrounds. A full 18 hole frisbee golf course that is fairly difficult and physically challenging.Playground: Well equippedRestrooms: Updated and clean restrooms in the campground. The rest of the park are outhouse type restrooms and the lake area lacks a restroom.Dog-friendliness: Dogs are welcomePicnic area: Covered with electricity

Heavily wooded, 60 sites, (25 are FHU). Remainder elec only sites are gravel while the FHU are concrete pads. Nice new concrete block shower house. Also adjacent 3 picnic shelters, benches down at the lake to fish from. Do not reserve site 27 if you can help it as campers walk along the sidewalk to the bathroom right in front of your patio within five feet of your door, really should not even be a site. Nonetheless we had a great time because we were there with two other couples and site 29 is extra large so we always sat around their fire pit and ate our meals at their site.

Very clean, nice Host Camper, a word of advice. Take bug spray and Wood, $6 for a bundle that wouldn't burn long enough to cook on. Site # 4

Mt Gilead is an interesting state park. The camp sites are located within a short, hilly walk to a very small, scenic lake with two bridges and dams or spill off areas. The hiking trails are good with a few steep areas so I would recommend being in decent shape before hiking or walking down to the lake. We are 62 & 63 and pretty fit. The camp site, we reserved (#6) was small with a wooden terrace, which we enjoyed. I put up blankets along each side of the terrace for additional privacy and also so our old dog wouldn't bark at our very close neighbors. The terrace also kept us from public display. It was a full service site. The sites are close together throughout the campgrounds but there are a few electric sites that are spacious. We had excellent neighbors and our area was quiet. We really enjoyed our stay, clean surroundings, good hikes, good neighbors and the privacy our little terrace gave us. I would strongly recommend looking how close the sites are before reserving, especially with a pet but other than that, it was another great stay at a beautiful, unique Ohio State Park!

Came today for a beginner kayak class and was really disappointed we could not get on the water due to blue green algae. I noticed people fishing and wondered if they were aware of this ? Meredith and Alex were GREAT ! We went over the different ways you would use your paddle and what to do in case a storm pops up and even how you would get back into your kayak if you were to flip. They were so knowledgeable and friendly that even though we drove over an hour and the class was canceled we were still glad we met the two of them. I can't complement them enough. They both treated us with encouragement and enthusiasm which in today's world doesn't happen near enough, I only wished the water would of been safe. We need to take better care of what we have and today brought that home.Melanie Copley

Very clean, however it's very small park. There are nice spots with full camper hook-ups. The small campground store has things that you may need, it also has a coffee bar. The worker there is very polite and he answers any questions you may have. All in all, it is a very nice unpretentious park. There is a nice fishing lake.Restrooms: Nice clean bathrooms and hot showers.
