The Kokosing Gap Trail is a very popular and scenic trail, suitable for walking and biking on its blacktop surface. It is very friendly for beginners and veterans alike, with lots of shaded areas most of the way along the river. Visitors find it a wonderful and magical place, with many different things to observe. There are plenty of cool places to stop and take amazing photos, including a tunnel built in the mid-1800s and a train engine with rail cars to explore near Kenyon College. The trail offers plenty of grassy spots, picnic tables, shelters, clean restrooms, and seats for a quick rest. It is dog-friendly with a leash. A note of caution is given for a 50mph highway crossing near the iconic bridge, which has reduced visibility.
We visit this place religiously every fall. It's just that wonderful a place. The only part that sucks is there is a 50mph highway right before that iconic bridge you have to cross so watch out! I usually go and test trails before I take my wife out on it. I found out that this trail is very friendly for beginners and veterans. She will be fine. Lot's of shaded areas.
