I was with Smith's for years. Moved for a few years and returned. Was so looking forward to using Smith's again, but the service isn't worth it anymore. How many pharmacy branches do you have to call to get your meds properly?

This place is awful. My grandfather ordered a wheelchair/walker type device for my grandmother. They shipped the wrong item, and when he returned to exchange it, there was some sort of problem with the insurance. A woman was helping him and said he would need to come back in the afternoon. He did, and the woman said that they had it sorted out. Then a "manager" stepped in. I'm putting "manager" in quotes because this man definitely was not a leader or a role model in any way, and instead quite rude and disrespectful. I'm not sure of his name, but he threatened to call the police on my grandfather. He told him "not to talk to his employees like that," when he hadn't done anything wrong. The order was getting squared away. The "manager" also complained that "the whole pharmacy can hear you," as well as told my grandfather that he was in the military and he was going to kick him out of the store. He even got in his face. Nose to nose with a 90 year old customer taking care of an exchange with another employee, can you imagine? What a douche. The transaction was already being handled fine, he didn't need to step in and definitely didn't need to be a jerk. Now, my grandfather is 90 years old. My grandmother is older. Was he (my grandfather) talking loudly? He is a little hard of hearing so yeah, probably. Was he being rude or disrespectful? No. He ordered a mobility device and received a different one than he ordered. It's fair that he would want to exchange it for the correct one. I'm not sure what sad life this "manager" has that he thinks it's OK to threaten a 90 year old man, but what a jerk! Smith's is never busy anyway, so you'd think they'd want to treat their customers better. CVS is just a few blocks away and they definitely have better customer service. I'll make sure to tell everyone about this interaction and make sure none of my friends or family in the area go back to Smith's. I have worked in customer service for over a decade and it's not hard to have a little respect for your customer and treat them kindly. Hopefully this man gets reprimanded or fired, because he deserves the worst.

Had my medicine when other pharmacies didn't because of shortage. I am very fast and courteous.

I am reluctant to write my first ever bad review, but there's no excuse for this lack of professionalism. I was having no luck getting a certain prescription filled at the pharmacy that I normally use. I called 7 different pharmacies with no luck. When I called Smith's Pharmacy on 2nd St in Portsmouth, OH, the gentleman who answered the phone told me that 'yes, they did have the medication'. I asked if he was for sure that they had it and that they weren't in danger of running out before my provider got the order in. But again, he assured me that I would have no problem getting it. I contacted them twice before my provider actually had time to get the order in. Then I finally had to go home after a very frustrating, disappointing day. Later I called to see if they received the prescription and filled it. The man who answered told me I'd need to speak to someone else. The lady who then spoke to me said my provider did call it in but they didn't have it. I told her that a male employee assured me that they did have it. She said she was sorry but again 'no, they don't have it'. A couple hours later, I did get it filled at Rite Aid in Wheelersburg...which provided exceptional, expedient service. And by the way, they received my phone number and insurance information from my provider so they messaged me AND had it ready and waiting when I got there. So Smith's could have called me to notify me of their misinformation and shortcomings, but I suppose their riveting personal conversations on company time were more important than giving satisfactory (or even marginal) service to a new customer.

Fast and friendly. They greet me by name every time I visit. Very knowledgeable staff. I was waiting 20 minutes at the big chains just to drop off my script and another 1-2 hours to get it filled. At Smiths I'm done and out the door in 15 minutes. I'd still be in the drop off line at the chain. Nice clean space with unique interesting gifts as well. They deliver for free when I can't get out. Prices are 30% better than the chains.

Called to ask about transferring a prescription and was placed on a 15 minute hold. When I asked what the after insurance cost would be I was told that they could not / would not tell me until I transferred the prescription to them because "everyone's insurance is different." Since my insurance is very very common I asked what an existing customer with this insurance would pay for this prescription, and again was told that they would not provide a price, but if I would transfer the Rx to them they would call me back.

Staff is rude and incompetent! If a prescription needs prior approval or costs are not covered by insurance they will not inform the doctor or patient. You will go back and forth between calls with the pharmacy whom ironically never gets their faxes either. Let’s not forget that if you are signed up for delivery service you need to call them and request your delivery each time or the prescription will sit there. If there is any issues… they will transfer you from line to line not informing you to hearing on the other line.:. What do you need?! Prepare to Micro manage!
