April 2023 by Guy I.
We purchased a new Rheem hot water heater and bought the Home Depot Protection Plan for $69 back in September 2018. On Monday, April 10, 2023, sometime before 7:00am, the hot water heater tank burst and we had water streaming out of the heater; thankfully it went into a nearby drain. Othe than poor workmanship, I have no beef with Rheem, because they are going to replace the water heater. This review is about the Home Depot Protection plan. The Home Depot protection plan is cheap insurance in case you need to replace or fix an appliance. The protection plan we bought extends the labor warranty to five years. Before you call, you upload pictures of the Home Depot purchase receipt as proof of purchase. When you dial their 800 number, you step through a rather antiquated menu structure and once talking to an agent, if you get transferred, you start over with each agent going through the case number, phone number, or name verification. While the agents are polite, they are completely inflexible as to what they are willing to do to help you. Thinking that with water streaming out of our water heater they would move a bit faster to get a plumber out to our house to help stem the water, they were unwilling to even try. For a tank burst on Monday before 7am, the first plumber they are willing to send is late Wednesday afternoon. They just don't care if it is an emergency to you, and for us, since we have family showing up Thursday, getting a new water heater installed was paramount to us. I am convinced that we will be lucky to see a replacement water heater even next week. And, oh, by the way, they do not schedule any appointments over the weekend. No emergency calls are covered by the plan. Moreover, the agents, when pushed, and I pushed hard to see just what they would do, one started hollering at me and a different one hung up on me. Their process is completely inflexible and they match their process. After all the frustration with a lack of speed, and the inflexibility with the process, anything to ease the cost of replacing a water heater might be worth looking at. The cost is expected to be at least $1000 to replace this water heater, and that is with a replacement water heater for free. That amount, by the way is the max that Home Depot will pay for them to replace the water heater.

NEGATIVE 100 STARS. My husband and I went in the store to purchase paint. Robin, the associate at the paint counter, completely ignored us doing other tasks, then when another customer approached, helped them immediately. This is not the first time this has happened with this particular employee. It is a pattern and based on the customers he chooses to help, I believe it is racially motivated. The customer that he helped in lieu of us even agreed and made a video saying as much. The way we were treated was completely unacceptable and intolerable. The management response was equally pathetic and disappointing. I highly recommend finding somewhere to shop if you are not the "right" ethnicity.

Super kind employees who always make sure you have found everything and are willing to help out and even sometimes give discounts to satisfy the customers.

Recently, I had to go the local Home Depot store in order to return a small unused paint sample that was supposed to be a "color match". Upon arrival I went to the help desk/return/pickup desk whereon I had to deal with an employee who simply stated persistently that returns for paint simply would not be accepted. Due to my insistence the employee then called the store manager in order to sort out the situation, and things only got worse from that point on. The manager used the same pointless talking points indicating that onto the small paint container it was stated that it is non-returnable. Well, it also says on the paint container that it is a "color match" (which clear this one was not). Subsequently, the manager came up with the most absurd arguments one can possibly imagine, like implying to ask if I did not know the paint color (supposed memorized it) as if the differences between the hundreds of slightly different tones and gradients of white would equate to the difference between red and yellow and thus would be easily identifiable by simply memorizing and later identifying all possible intangible nuances of white from one's memory. After about 15 minutes of that non-sensical situation, I indicated that in case a refund was not issued (I am talking about $5) one would file a complaint against Home Depot (Reynoldsburg, OH) about that incident and concomitantly file a complaint with credit card company in order to receive a refund. Eventually the manager of the store conceded and issue a store credit on the amount of $5 -- which I spent right away since I have no intention to ever return to a Home Depot store again. That was truly one of the most obnoxious and obtuse experiences I have ever hand in any retail setting. Normally, I spend thousands of dollars per year in home improvement stores; but most certainly will never spend even a dime at Home Depot again. ADDENDUM:Note I do painting with some regularity and have had "color match" paints that were not a close enough reproduction of the original paint bought at another stores (Lowes). At Lowes, for instance, they instantly issued a refund for the paint that was not a proper match. It is already bad enough having to waste one's time and money going to a store to buy a "color match" paint sample and then finding out that it was not what it was supposed to be. Subsequently having to spend even more time and money going back to the same store in order to obtain refund or an actual color match paint issued... After all that unnecessary spent of time and money (without any type of adquate compensation), the fact one still have to deal with that horrible ordeal is by no means acceptable. In an ideal and just situation Home Depot should not only accept the item instantly and relay proper apologies for their incompetence in providing a product as described, but also subsequently provide one with proper monetary compensation for the time and money that one had to spend due to their incompetence.

Stood around waiting for 30 minutes for the only person who could help me come back from lunch in 10 minutes. No sale for them

Always have a good experience here. It's a homeowner's dream. And their theme song (especially with the cat) makes my day! Who can't go in there strutting in to the Home Depot theme song like a badass?!

The employees here are very helpful... the only problem I have is when you call... I called and let the phone ring until someone answered... 5 MINUTES the phone rang until someone finally answered!!! I let it ring this long just out of curiosity. They transferred me to the flooring department... to where I was hung up on... WOW... WTH.

When I go here I can never find someone to help me. That's is my biggest gripe. Carts were cleaned and I was welcomed for the first time.

Do not order appliances with Home Depot! Their Delivery is outsourced by small companies who do not know how to install at all! It took 3 1/2 weeks for my appliances to be installed correctly. I was yelled at by the delivery team and forced to sign the install papers (I signed them to get them out of my house) they didn’t even install or plug the fridge in! Dish washer exploded all over my floor. I waited DAYS for a emergency plumber to come to my house and fix the fridge and dishwasher. Home Depot has still not called me back about a refund for the installation.

Terrible empathy for customer empathy problems, and they take no responsibility for clerks NOT forewarning customers of return policy of customized paint or stain. Or in my case, NO forewarning whatsoever!!

I've spent several thousand dollars at home depot in the past few months remodeling my rv. the staff is always very patient with all my questions. my particular store has half a dozen industry professionals with decades of experience on staff to answer customer questions. I've been very impressed.
