This place is on point! We live 5 minutes away & wanted to have a place to enjoy a winter night away from home. This place is top notch & BEAUTIFUL. The food and drinks at oh taco are the best!

We love this hotel. We first started coming here because my son wanted to stay in downtown Sandusky for his birthday. We have now made it an event to come on his even year birthdays. The staff is always friendly and greet with a smile and the rooms have always been spot on and make you feel like a rock star. Being so close to everything and having a choice of 2 bars in the same building (rooftop and public house on 1st floor) is amazing. Thank you for always making my sons birthday special.

Check out the rooftop bar, it's a neat hidden gem...or don't, we like it that way too! The barmaid is fun and spot on with the drinks!! Cheers I say!

We had a horribly disappointing stay in July. I was really excited about booking this non-chain hotel, but it was a headache from check-in until weeks after check out. We booked through Expedia and prepaid for the stay through the site. In order change our checking date to one day earlier, the hotel rebooked us and requested payment upon check-in. Even after advising them it had already been paid, we were asked to produce a credit card.Cons: We were charged for a 3rd person, even though the booking had been made for 3 people....The room had a loud fan above the bed, a bright blue light coming from the refrigerator, and the world's worst, most uncomfortable mattresses. Pros: Close to the water and some restaurants. There was a coffee shop we could walk to and a cute shop, restaurant, and rooftop bar at the hotel. Parking was not an issue, as the area was basically a ghost town. More cons: Checked out early as no one had gotten much sleep during our 3 night stay because of the awful mattresses, noise, and bright light situation. Nothing like leaving your vacation needing sleep and wanting to go home early. Returned home to find the initial charge AND an additional stay charge from the hotel on the credit card bill. Called the hotel twice to have one of the charges refunded. I was told they didn't believe this happened and claimed the hotel was not at fault, also that they were "very busy" so the manager could not come to the phone, "all the notes have been taken" and "a manager will get back to you". Manager didn't call. I called one more time to give the hotel a chance to check their records and issue a refund, with no luck. I then called Expedia and had a 40 minute phone conversation, during which they had to verify we had been doubled charged and immediately issued a refund. I found it most interesting that once I got Expedia involved, the hotel could no longer deny they had gotten paid twice for our stay and only then, could I get a refund issued. I wanted to love this place and visit over and over again, but absolutely will not stay again or recommend this hotel to anyone. It was a huge waste of time and money and an ongoing source of frustration.

Rooms would get a better rating because they are rather unique but there are two neon signs above the headboard with speakerwire like wires powering them. The cords are dangling from the signs and somehow ours got pulled lose from the signs overnight, no foul play goin on, and I was charged $160. I sent an email to the email listed on the website after I called and got no answer (likely because their front desk often not staffed when they have to step away to tend to the other 3-4 businesses operating in the same building). Its been 11 days and no response. Called on the 11th day and was told the email goes to the owners and I would need to speak with them about it. I tried. Sent followup today. I question the charge and placement of the cords with no securement/conduit to protect them from getting accidentally pulled. Betsys hands seem to be tied when it comes to disputes.Location is great. Right in the middle of downtown adjacent to other bars and restraunts. Location likely keeps even those who dont want to spend $300/night coming back.Service is spotty with the lightly staffed front desk and all the things the hotel has going on. Seems lean for a full service establishment.$50 for late check out with no call/notice is a bit much. Hilton/marriot will typically call and ask or atleast have housekeeping knock on the door. I assumed/recalled noon checkout but was mistaken. I stay at boutiques across the country and have never been charged a late checkout without notice.Otherwise, the place is reasonable. I understand some of the negative reviews (agree with some as well) but see the positives too. Seems its run from afar and err on the side of money. Cant say I wont be back but will definitely search out alternatives next time.

Place is great. Room was large, very clean and well put together. Beds super comfortable. Bar/restaurant/shop on the bottom floor and a bar on the roof 9overlooking the harbor. Movie in the park across the street while we were there. Stayed with our kids, We were right above the bar but could barely tell. Sandusky down town is a bit dirty, looks like they are trying to revive the place, tons of little shops and what not hidden all over. Not a bad place to spend two nights

Well, we had high expectations from the website, and that didn't come to fruition. There was no parking, you had the option of parking 1 block, or 2 blocks away carrying luggage, and you had no idea if your car was safe. Staff seemed bothered by you and unfriendly, very militant. I asked if they had ice, she looked at me like I had 2 heads, then said maybe the restaurant can give you a cup of ice. You have to use a key just to use the stairs. Shower floor looked dirty. The room seemed smaller because color scheme was black. OH, the best part is they give you earplugs because it's noisey. What if there was an emergency, you wouldn't know with earplugs in. You heard everything upstairs. Just wasn't a comfortable place at all. They give you the option of snacks and drinks, the smallest size the company makes by the way, and they charge 4 to 12 dollars each. We paid for 2 nights, A LOT of money too, and we just left, didn't even stay 1 night. VERY DISAPPOINTED

Booked hotel room and prepaid for it and when I arrived at the hotel with my family they had already given my room to someone else and we had nowhere to stay. Not reliable place to stay. Need to improve upon their system they use with Hotels.com and other third party sites. Leaving families in this situation is unacceptable.

What a gem. Great little boutique hotel. Rooftop bar and restaurant downstairs were excellent and inviting. Waling distance from bars, restaurants, and shops. Staff was super courteous and friendly. Room was clean and well equipped with amenities. One thing that stood out was how well the room was insulated from the surrounding noise. It was silent in our room even though there was construction going on next door and the rooftop bar across the hall. Great place. Will come again.

I had to switch rooms because the smell of cleaning sprays while being overpowering failures to cover the smoke and sour sweat smell. The next room was also powerfully "fragranced", but what kept me from sleeping was the way loud fan/vent in ceiling and the music from the bar. I was assured I wouldn't hear the bar, and also, told it closed at midnight. As it's just after midnight and am unable to sleep in the mushy bed with the loud loudness and at my wits end knowing I spent So Much Money I am writing this review. This phony boutique hotel is silly and stinky, in equal parts.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights while visiting cedar point. Loved having bars/restaurants within walking distance. Parking was easy, and the Room was clean and comfortable. I don’t think this would be the best option if staying with kids, but for adults, it was great. Loved the unique character of this hotel. If I am back in the area, I would stay here again.

The room was very small. There were not enough amenities. Our room was in third floor and the whole floor smelled bad ( old and moldy?). They have airplane pricing for their snacks! $6 for a little bag of salty snacks! The place was really noisy even after 1 Am and you could hear people from upstairs walking and talking. The room was all painted in black and unpleasantly dark with a view of construction and parking and did not feel clean at all, specifically the carpet. We left at 9 am and there was nobody at front desk in case you need something. Was not worth $200 a night for sure.

I really don't want to write a bad review, but I had a set of circumstances beyond my control, and I believe I have no choice. Please tell me if I am wrong! I have stayed at Hotel Kilbourne many times and it is a very nice place and the staff has always been very nice to me, but I made a reservation for back in January and I had to change the reservation due to an issue at work. They accepted the change of dates. Unfortunately, I had to change the reservation again due to an illness (I got COVID) and I moved the reservation to today February 23. Well, I got stuck in the awful snowstorm in Minneapolis and my flight back to Cleveland was cancelled so I tried to change the reservation again and initially the customer service rep was very understanding and changed my reservation. She then called me back 5 minutes later and indicated that her manager said that I had changed my reservation too many times and they cancelled my new reservation and that I was going to be charged. I realize that I'm sure that I have violated some provision of the fine print, but I like the Hotel. Now they have lost me as a customer. If they insist on charging me, I won't ever stay there again and that's too bad because I travel a lot and it's a cool place.

A great boutique hotel. The only reason I'm not giving a 5 star is that the ceiling heating unit in my room was very noisy. Excellent other than that.
