Shortly after, two new preschool teachers joined my son's classroom, and as someone who spent several years working in early childhood education myself, I know the difference between someone who is passionate about this work and someone who is just going through the motions. And I have watched those same families, years later, crying again, this time because the early childhood chapter is ending and they have to say goodbye to the people who became so much more than strangers.
I have lived both sides of that. I have cried pulling away after a hard drop-off, knowing I had to keep going to provide for my kids and trusting, praying really, that I made the right choice for them. Trusting someone with your child can feel like a double-edged sword. You know it is the right decision, but it costs you something every single time.
Now I am coming up on the end of my own early childhood chapter. This fall, my youngest heads to Kindergarten, and we will be saying goodbye to our Little Buckeye family. I already know there will be tears.
I am so genuinely happy with the choice we made. If you are in that season of searching and second-guessing, trust your gut, do your research, and find the place that feels right for your family.
