About Humane Society Madison County
The Humane Society of Madison County (HSMC) is a non-profit organization established in 1989 by local residents to address the need for animal care in the area. Supported by the Madison County Commissioners, Sheriff’s office, donations, and fundraising, HSMC provides a safe haven for animals in need. Visitors often note the kindness of the staff and the rewarding experience of volunteering, such as walking dogs or fostering animals. However, some concerns have been raised about the small, dark dog kennels, particularly for larger dogs and pitbull mixes, highlighting a need for facility improvements. Many people express gratitude for the care their pets received, sharing heartfelt stories of fostering and rehoming. One volunteer shared a touching story about fostering a dog named Lyla, while another recounted their experience of having to give up their kittens due to personal circumstances. Overall, the community appreciates HSMC for its clean and organized environment, as well as the dedication of its staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to ensure animals feel loved and comfortable. The humane society plays a crucial role in finding homes for strays and providing support to pet owners in need.

Just picked up a beautiful dog. Since she was a stray very little was known of her, but she has been assessed and she is settling in with the family.
