I went there in the 80's as a teen. It's changed my life, and helped me stand up to bullies. Now in my 50's, and STILL remember Master Lewis.

I had been a student in the past with the dynamic, creative, and militaristic Grand Master Lewis. When I felt my son was ready to learn about martial arts, we visited the school in 2024. I was happy to see the same structure in place. High attention to detail and staying focused. Self control is ultimately what will help anyone deal with unreasonable situations. I have talked with my son numerous times about what a real “win” is and why we don’t quit. After 8 months, he started to understand that discipline is the process of continuing to show up when motivation fades. The illusion is that the most talented people last the longest.
My son loves to pretend but he didn’t appreciate the stakes when we tried local sports leagues. The rewards of improvement weren’t obvious to him. The quality of wanting to try again after failing can be taught, or revealed. Persisting when the goal is elusive. The class challenges are meant to provoke thinking. Every instructor does explain the “Why” of every activity very well mostly using the Socratic method.
Things that kept my son going was making friends, building trust, and embracing the family dynamic of the school. Intimidation became inspiration though every goal always seemed just out of reach. There is some contact with sparring. Protective gear is worn and the general idea is to learn to control your breathing even under duress or having moments of doubting yourself.

Great traditional karate school. This is not a “belt factory” like the chain schools.

I personally have been involved with the school since 1992. Now with my children being involved in the educational programs it makes them the 3rd generation to attend. I could not think of a better place to help them build a foundation for the rest of their lives.

This place is life changing. I was a student for 5 years from 2001 until 2006. Grand Master Lewis and his family is amazing, supportive, and well educated. Grand Master Lewis is now retired however, his son is now teaching the school. I will never forgot everything I have learned and still apply my knowledge and training to everyday life. Memories for life.

Would give more stars if I could. All of the instructors are great. As an original student of Grand Master Lewis I would like to take the time to simply say thank you. Words couldn't express the gratitude I have for this school and the people here. The lessons you will learn make you the best person you can be. Yours sincerely Tommy "thumb" and Teri @The Beauty Bar.

A superior martial arts school with a focus on children. They head instructor has been in the field for 40 years. The school has been in the same location for 20 years, so this is no fly by night school. The emphasis is on developing inner strength and personal development. Each student is allowed to progress at their own pace. Assistant black belt instructors have up to 20 years of experience and include both men and women. If you are thinking about the study of the martial arts, I recommend visiting the school.
