“From the owners to the quality of the meat, it's top-notch! We cooked our first round last week, and it was amazing. We had reservations at a high-end restaurant for Valentine's Day this weekend, but we canceled because we're going to Southern Steer for filets, sides, and have an incredible dinner at home. The quality is better than restaurants!”

“Had to stop by and try their chopped brisket THURSDAY ONLY special!

Bill Kamp's meat market has only been around a short time -- since 1910 -- so they know a thing or two about meat. If fresh cut meat of just about any type is called for in your menu, they have it. The store itself is a throwback to butcher shops of bygone days, with various meats, seasonings, cheeses, side dishes, and related items -- everything you'd need for a great cook out, dinner, or feast.

But I digress...y'all are here about the sandwich.

Listen, this thing started out impressive and only got better. When the butcher pulled the slab of brisket out and dropped it on the counter and the walls shook, I knew this was some SERIOUS brisket. He proceeded to hack off a chunk of the slab, grab a knife and start chopping. As he did so, I thought "oh, he must be preparing some for other sandwiches, too.

Nope. Just mine.

My thought as he began piling the chopped brisket was "that's got to be a pound of brisket there". This was confirmed when the six inch high sandwich was placed on the scale for me to take it from, and it showed 1.02 pounds.

Ever get pre-meat sweats from a sandwich? Because I did.

This is a to go counter, and I knew there was no way this sandwich would make it home, nor would I with that smell in the car. Thankfully, there were a couple of tables outside that I commandeered. If you lack willpower, have a seat and enjoy!

The meat was moist and tender, flavorful, and excessive. Like this is two meals worth, folks. But it's so good, it won't last that long. The sandwich itself was nothing fancy, or showy-- just classic and delicious. A buttered and lightly toasted bun attempted to contain the brisket, and the sauce? Straight up Head Country. No special, crazy, secret sauce--just an Oklahoma tradition. (Granted, the brisket didn't need it, and can be ordered without it).

So, if you're in the north OKC area on a Thursday, head over to 7310 N. Western and stop in Bill Kamp's for their amazing chopped brisket sandwich.

And while you're there, pick up some chorizo... :)

NOTE : The first photo is my actual sandwich--not some made for a photoshoot prop. This is the size sandwich you get. You have been warned.”

“There isn’t a better spot to purchase steaks from. I have bought these steaks for people out of town and they are always a hit. I love the seasoning mix. I love the potatoes that come with filets. Personally- I eat the ribeye burgers like they are going out of style… but every time I take a bite of anything from Rhett’s I end up smiling with gratitude that this premium butcher is in town!”
