Great little museum- has some very nice display cases of historical intrests. The second half of the displays is a quiet room with water sounds and a long white ribbon that weves back and forth. At first we were confused by this but the staff explained there is a book we walked past that explained it- and after looking though the book it made such sense and was a beautiful explanation of life. Highly recomend- the war memorial outside is also very beautiful.

The gentleman behind the desk was incredibly kind and enjoyed teaching us as we walked through with questions. I hope the Osage will benefit from the tourism brought in by the book and movie once it is released. Please visit and donate. Also, please give your business to those that are Osage owned. I would love to see more Osage owned and operated businesses in Pawhuska. I would love to see the Osage Nation Museum expand as well. Please contribute if you visit!

Definitely add this to your Pawhuska stop. We had out of town guests who were very interested in seeing the town where Killers of the Flower Moon (the book) was set. We gained so much information about the tribe but also fun today bits about the filming as well. The art exhibit of Seven Bends of the River was moving and the curated bronze busts balanced with the photo of the tribal women, impressive. What started as an audible for the day because the favorite stop.

We enjoyed visiting this small museum! Very kind docents told us interesting info about the exhibits. It's one of the oldest Native American museums in the country. We also enjoyed viewing the room with all the photographs of the Osage tribe members registered on the roll book in 1906-1907, and talking to Katheryn an elder in the Osage community. What a treasure. Her niece is the one who painted the beautiful large oil painting about their origin story. The veterans memorial eagle feather sculpture outside is beautiful. We are so glad we stopped here!! Tip: when we went to buy admission tickets they said it's donation only so bring cash. :)Also, no inside photography allowed.

Osage National Museum Pawhuska Oklahoma:This free and fantastic facility is just dripping with history and knowledge. It's not large but what a wonderful way to spend an hour or two and learn about the Osage tribe and their amazing and resilient culture.Unfortunately, you can not take photos or video inside the building, but it is just loaded with historical artifacts that will open your eyes and affect your soul. It was founded in 1938 and is the oldest tribally owned museum in America.Outside there is a beautiful and moving memorial to those who lost their lives fighting for a country that took almost everything from them. The happy note in all of this is that they ended up on land that is oil rich and have prospered regardless of the hardships placed upon them!

The museum is mostly in one main room and then a room behind it. Be sure to go into the latter because the collection of drums there is amazing. We especially liked the ones that have traditional tribal art on one side and modern art on the other. The whole Osage Nation Campus that it's on is worth looking around at, including the modern law buildings and the veterans memorial with the feather sculpture.

We were visiting Pawhuska for information regarding the tribal history related to the injustices experienced by that Tribe of native Americans as the result the early days of oil discoveries on their land. Very welcoming. The hostess welcomed us and responded to all questions. We would definitely recommend a visit.

Closed today. But, I have been here before. Actually, purchased the book, "Killers of the Flower Moon", two years prior to any news of the movie! While there a man coming out of the BIA actually asked us if we were with the filming crew! He told us they would be in town this week finishing some last shots for the movie, due to be released in November. Another great addition to this trip is the new War Memorial on the grounds a beautiful metal feather is surrounded by the military seals and they have just begun engraving the names of those who have served. To which, I admire and respect with all my heart. The Adventure Lab we did here took us to points of interest that pertained to the atrocious murders that occurred here. It was very well done. We had lunch at the Mercantile, which I also highly recommend!
