Refused to give me debit card because I didn't have a credit score, but neglected to tell me this until well after I had set up my account. In fact, no one told me: I got a letter in the mail stating that I would not be receiving a debit card "for reasons marked below". The reason that was marked? "Other: (and then handwritten) no credit score". Strange, if this was a real reason to deny someone a debit card one would think that option would be neatly typed like the numerous other listed potential reasons on the page. Maybe I just don't understand banks, what with my young, credit-scoreless brain and all, but that seemed weird. I suffered through for awhile because I was determined to use the bank closest to my house out of convenience (let's all laugh together) but around tax time I decided enough was enough, I was done functioning with only the ATM card they had so graciously given me in lieu of a debit card. I received my tax return check in the mail (because I already didn't trust this bank), cashed it, and asked the woman at the window to close my account. Looking back, I can see why the teller may have been sceptical of that specific transaction, but instead of explaining that it's against policy/a little strange/whatever she just demanded back the money she had just given me for the check, gave me back said check, and suggested I try the bank that issued the check, the closest one being about a half hour drive away. She claimed if I wanted to I could come inside and explain to the bank manager (who I never actually saw because he couldn't be bothered to so much as get up out of his chair to address the situation) I could, but that they were unable to help otherwise. I thanked her anyway, closed my account, and switched to Arvest.
