Had a great experience adopting through the animal shelter. Thank you for the work you do for these animals and our community! Riff Raff (formerly Teeny) is the best good boy and is enjoying his new home and family.

An animal shelter that refuses to take animals!!! Wow! What are my taxes paying for? My property is in town, and I have a stray kitten living under a shed. Female too. I called and they told me, “we don’t take animals at the front door.” I then inquired as to how they do take animals and no answer was given. Am I supposed to let this cat roam all over the neighborhood, have kittens and be the entire neighborhoods problem? It’s not my responsibility to take the financial burden, time and stress off of an irresponsible pet owner nor is it my problem to figure out the solution. Why does Shawnee even have an animal shelter? They are completely worthless! Oh, and did I mention their hours are 12-4 Mon thru Friday only, closed weekends and they hate answering the phone. Good luck!

I'm a little concerned that when I reached out to them, because a kitten was ran over on the street I reside. It has taken a good couples hours. Hopefully their service can improve.

Found some stray puppies, just couldn’t stand the thought of letting them sit on the side of the road and starve. When I tried to take them to the shelter I was turned away because “we aren’t equipped to take puppies.” I suppose I was confused as to the purpose of animal shelters but I was under the impression that they were meant to provide shelter for stray and lost animals, but clearly that is incorrect. When asked about what I could do to keep the puppies safe I was told “post them on Facebook.” As if that is any type of solution when I do not have the space needed to keep them safe for any real amount of time. If you need help with anything other than adopting a dog or getting animal control sent out, you might as well save your time and breath and call someone else.

Me and My Fiancé have tried to call out there to see if they are taking any dogs or cats and they just tell us that we have to rehome the dog ourselves and then hang up on us they are very rude when they talk to you over the phone as well!

Could not see adoptable pets in person. 🙁only pictures of adoptable dogs.
Small selection to choose from. Was looking for a young female. Only one in shelter at time of visit, she was a few years old. And not the breed we were looking for.

I'm just wondering what the Officials spend our tax money on..? And why there are only a few dogs in this shelter when there's so many people pleading for puppies and animals to be picked up but the officers at this animal shelter refuse to help. What do these animal control people do all dang day cause there sure ain't enough work to pay them for 8 hours a day?? They're kicking back doing nothing on our dime is what they're doing

I like them, occasionally, having $15 microchip day!
I wish they had shot days too!

I went to look at a dog. He appeared to be well taken care of. The lady at the front desk was very nice. I had brought a bag of dog treats for the dogs. She said I could not give treats that I brought in and gave the kids and I some of their treats to give to the dog. If you are able to rescue a pet, you should go do it! There are many great ones that need a home. I also appreciate the fact that this is a NO KILL shelter.
