Prologue:
I attempted to acquire an estimate to sell a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The Silverado had recently bricked the transmission. Furthermore, I was not willing to tow the vehicle to CarMax.
Chapter One:
The kid was a robot. I had a sense that this small interaction was breaking his brain. I was asking for an estimate. The kid was attempting to figure out how to give a full and detailed appraisal. The kid repeatedly questioned if the vehicle was unlocked. I stated once again that the vehicle in question was at home with a blown torque converter. I was only interested in an estimate. He stated that someone would need to go inside of the unlocked vehicle to take pictures as a process of the vehicle appraisal.
Chapter Two:
I asked once again for an estimate. I wasn't in a hurry to sell the vehicle. I did have 7 days from the estimate to decide if I was going to tow the vehicle to CarMax. I only needed to know if it was going to be worth it to tow the vehicle to the car lot.
Chapter Three:
The kid left his desk to ask someone if he could give an estimate. The kid came back stating he could, in fact, give an estimate. Then, in a weird and instant turn, his face went back to a worsened state of confusion. He could not give me an appraisal if the CarMax team did not have full access to the unlocked vehicle. He immediately stated again that he could give me an estimate if this is really what I wanted.
Chapter Four:
By this time, I felt as if we were not communicating clearly. I began questioning every decision in life that had brought me to this very place. This very car lot. In front of this very human being before me. I still question to this day if the kid was planning on having CarMax employees arrive at my house to give the vehicle appraisal.
Chapter Five:
But... no, I did my research. I found online that CarMax does not do home appraisals. This is why I had compiled all of the vehicle information that I could possibly need for an estimate. Heck-fire, I even took detailed pictures of the vehicle just in case the pictures would come in handy. All of these reasons were the very reason why I was standing in front of him...pleading to this young man for an estimate of a vehicle with a bricked transmission.
Chapter Six:
With a bad case of reverse deja vu and luckly only my keys in my hand, I felt a sense of calm wash over me. I had done my research. I had indeed prepared for this very moment. I had at one time seen myself in his very shoes. Therefore, I straightened my posture. I stood as tall as I could. I looked down once more to make sure it was only my keys in my hand.
Chapter Seven:
I walked right out of the car lot offices and stepped into my wife's vehicle. With a simple turn of the ignition, I was on my way home. I had successfully cut my losses. I could now look into other selling options. Grandfather, Richard Johnson would be very proud of me.
Epilogue:
I am fully aware that I may go online for estimates. For a better customer service experience, I had hoped I could visit the store in person to hash out any special circumstances with the vehicle in question. Boy, did I, and do I have egg on my face? Rhetorical...Anyhoo.
