Hours: Thames-Lea Plaza is one of the best shopping malls in Chatham, a one-stop shop kind of plaza where you can find anything and everything. It offers clothes, shoes, groceries, and necessities, with stores like a fantastic Mercato food store, a very busy Canadian Tire, Sportchek, Dollarama, and Macro Foods. The plaza has recently welcomed a wave of new businesses, adding to its vibrant and bustling appeal. The structures are kept up, the plaza is clean, and there is ample parking. Sidewalks are always salted and cleaned, and cart corrals are spaced adequately. However, the lot is busy and breaking down in spots, with some terribly deep potholes at times due to delivery trucks and high traffic, though they are usually soon taken care of. Traffic patterns are terrible, with difficult entrances and exits at the corner of two busy roads, making it a more stressful place to visit and get in and out of. There are nice views of the river park across the street, which is a good spot for a quiet wander. The area offers plenty of fast food, including a great hot dog and sausage cart. Reviewers note that an affordable sit-down restaurant, unlike the terrible existing one, would complete the day of shopping nicely. Overall, it’s a good mall to shop at with fantastic service in its stores, though its popularity and traffic leave room for improvement.
