Great little spot to get groceries if you're on your way through or you live in Cobden.

I have really tried to support local business in Cobden. I posted and deleted a review about putrid chicken - bad enough to make me gag. From this grocery store. Yesterday I broke my promise to only buy canned goods at Cobden freshmart. Bought 6 hot dog buns. Yup - moldy. Blue mold on buns.DO NOT purchase anything other than canned and factory packaged ( pop and chips etc) here.DRIVE toEganville Renfrew Pembroke. For anything fresh. If you have children.Do not expose them to gastrointestinal issues. Yes it is that serious. This is a bulldozer property.I don't wear masks , but I would recommend a N-95 at this location.

There's usually a bad smell when you walk in. Stay away from the meat it's usually grey or greenish in color. It's previously frozen but they don't tell you that. They put expired milk on sale a week over its best before date. I wish there was another grocery store in cobden

Check your receipt when buying items on sale. Butter advertised as 4.99 lb. on shelf for 6.99 lb. Clerk said they didn’t have any but I pointed out they did and she honoured the 4.99 price. I had to ask for a receipt and then noticed she charged me 5.99 for a bag of potatoes that were advertised as 2.99. So again, check your receipt. I don’t blame the young clerk…Advertised sales should be entered into system.

I recently purchased an advertised item at this store. When it was rung in, I noticed that the price I was charged was incorrect. I waited until other customers had left the store, then brought it to the attention of the young student at the cash. He walked back with me to verify that I was correct. After doing that, he called one of the owners to come and refund me the difference. When she arrived, she said that the price posted was incorrect and the cash register price was the correct one, and that is what I had to pay. I pointed out that I should only have to pay the advertised price. She would not listen to me. She was rude and disrespectful, and she fled to the back to leave the poor student to deal with me. Word to the wise for people shopping here: watch what you are charged for when shopping here and always check expiry dates!

One of my favourite things about Ontario are the small towns and the many shops which support the community. The Cobden Freshmart is one of those which provides all the basics, and then some, of what you need in grocery. The staff are friendly and courteous and prices are what you’d expect for a small town grocery store.
