I must congratulate Caleb on being an excellent worker there. I honestly have no problems with anyone there, always a fabulous place to shop, but Caleb always greets me with a smile at the self check out, always offering his assistance. Such a friendly guy! I always go for the atmosphere there! Thank you!

No baskets here to carry groceries so if you only need a few items better off going elsewhere

This food basics is falling apart, it seems like every time I go in there now ALL THEIR PRODUCE IS ABOUT TO EXPIRE, asparagus all dry and shriveled, vegetable like broccoli already yellow and mushy, zucchini having mush spots on it, the salad being expired in 2 days, thats the regular, overpriced meats and vegetables ready for the compost, it’s disappointing cuz it’s the closest one to me but id rather walk an extra 20 mins or more if it means i can get edible products….dont go here for your vegetables you WILL be disappointed, next time I’m taking photos just so people can see how nasty it is there, everyone on here raving about this place is full of it loll

All of the produce was spoiled, several brands of prepackaged veggies had mold on them or were wilted and brown. Fruit flies were rampant. It was so disgusting I had to just leave and go elsewhere.

Those maple leaf indicators are VERY often lies. It's not hard to check, and we do. Disappointed.

This Food Basics at 751 Upper James St. no longer has baskets. I called and spoke to the manager and he said that the baskets were being stolen. How is this so? I've noticed more hired security guards in your stores. How does this reconcile with the fact that all the baskets have gone missing? I went to buy fresh flowers and I had a heck of a time finding a bouquet that wasn't already rotting.
I try to check out, with beer. Only one checkout is open and not old enough to sell alcohol. I go over to Customer Service, the only lane open to buy beer and wine except I've gotten stuck behind the lady trying to return yogourt when I only have a handful of items. And behind her is the guy buying lottery tickets.
It would appear that Food Basics is following other big grocery business practices in the trend of raising prices, offering less services and conveniences for the the customer, and phasing out real trained human cashiers while implementing more self-checkout options. Now I also having the privilege of scanning and bagging my own groceries that I just paid money to your corporation for.

These grocery chains won't hire cashiers anymore, but they will hire employees who's only job it seems is to be suspicious of long time customers potentially taking jars of jam. The way they hover at the self check out feels extremely insulting.
I have never stolen food and didn't have any plans to ever do so... This consistent air of suspicion is uncomfortable and I will be getting my groceries from somewhere else from now on.

Great clean store. Lots of great options and prices. Watch the flyers for sale. They also have good prices if it’s not on sale.
Fast cash outs most times and friendly workers.
