I recently moved back to Hamilton and live for now in the downtown core. I had my afternoon free and Googled used bookstores and saw this store and remembered from when I lived here 15 years ago. I walked down to see what selection of books they had as I want to begin getting books for myself as well as books with classic fairytales to read to my girlfriend's two daughters (5 & 6).
When I arrived the store was closed and saw they only open by appointment only or by luck if you walk by. To say I am hugely disappointed is an understatement. If they only open by appointment is it the case you have to spend several hundred to a thousand dollars in books before they are willing to open? I am sorry but I am going to take my business elsewhere.

The most amazing little bookstore. You have to call to make an appointment, but it's absolutely worth it. May seem odd to do so, but it's easy to make happen. If you are a bookworm or love cozy bookstores, then you have arrived. The owner was lovely and very helpful!

Such a beautiful book store with so many beautiful books, not like ordinary book stores. I would definitely recommend and will for sure come again, the owner was also very kind!

This afternoon I opted for an in-store pick-up by appointment as opposed to the free local delivery option as I was hoping to have a chance to browse the superb collection, attempt to spy some hidden gems and hopefully have some questions answered. This was clearly the correct choice as I was warmly welcomed and all my needs were met by the amazing woman tending to this store. Shopping right now is limited to appointment only but that is more than acceptable given the currently situation our city is dealing with. We are all in this together. Please wear your mask when visiting.Snagging a Kaweco in Bordeaux and leaving fulfilled, I will be returning at my earliest opportunity!May 13, 2022.

This is the kind of bookstore you think only exists in film or TV, no wonder a bunch of productions have filmed in here. So cozy and beautiful inside. I could spend a long time just searching for new reads in here. Absolute must see place in Hamilton for book lovers.

Lovely experience here today. Very helpful. Great selection of books, well managed and curated. Now sells fountain pens and journals. What a beautiful space for this bookseller in that gorgeous block on James South. I will have to check back soon for Graham Greene hardcovers, my collecting obsession.

A shop for the curios, nostalgic, and romantic. Books from your childhood and centuries past. Fountain pens and writing utensils of various values and warm leather arm chairs to review your finds. Has been featured in many films and television shows.
Take your date here and show him/her your intellectually mysterious side.

An appealingly appointed book store, it's like stepping into someone's curated personal study. A wide variety of aged and rarer volumes. Less selection of more contemporary titles than other used bookstores in the downtown area and a little pricier all around. That being said, the proprietor was extremely helpful and very friendly, and the quality of the older books was excellent.

There is no other bookstore more beautiful than James Street Bookseller in Hamilton. It looks like it's right off the set of Harry Potter with it's floating frame and large floating fountain pen in the front window. The hard wood and vintage decor within really helps that magical feeling. Not to mention the book ladder that is oh-so-beauty and the beast-esque! Let's talk about the books! She has newer books and older books at steal prices. Seriously there are times where I feel almost bad paying so low. I go in intending to buy one book, come out with three. A lot of those books are vintage as well. Anyone who loves books or is a collector, needs to come here. The owner is always so helpful and nice. From what I have heard the space can even be rented out for various events! Recently I have noticed that she started selling fountain pens and these stunning journals! (Of course I couldn't walk out not buying one of each). A place like Chapters Indigo has it's place sure, but everything in me that craves that magical feeling, comes here first.

I love this book store. They have such a huge span of books and comfortable seating to enjoy after you find your novel. The owner is extremely kind and helpful. She goes out of her way to help her customers find the books they are looking for and just goes above and beyond the call. Definitely stop in if youre looking for a book and good conversation!
