“The Staircase is tucked away on Dundurn Street in Hamilton and it’s easy to miss. From the outside, it looks like a big old house, a bit historic and a bit random. You’d never guess that inside, it’s buzzing with creativity and community energy.
What I really appreciate is how much this place gives back. They’re uplifting the neighbourhood, offering a true third space for people to connect, create and belong. The Staircase shines a light on Hamilton’s local arts, talent, and culture, and honestly, it’s exactly what this part of the city needs.
There’s a lot happening under one roof: a theatre, a café, and an event space. Basically a full-on community hub. Their regular programming includes comedy nights, coding camps, film screenings, and more. You can check out the full calendar on their website.
When we stopped by, there was a coding camp going on, and it was packed. We grabbed two lime sodas and a tea (all for about ten bucks which is rare in the GTA). The café even sells some merch.
Once you step inside, there’s this gorgeous spiral staircase on the right, which is where it gets its name.
Parking is easy too, with a lot right behind the building.
Overall, I’m just really glad a place like this exists as a creative anchor in a neighbourhood that needs and deserves it.”
“One of our favourite spots to see a band in Hamilton. Great bars and restaurants close by on James as well for before and after a show. Easy walk to the train and coat check available for 2 bucks.”
“Good place to play bowling in Hamilton. Prices have gotten really expensive, especially in the arcade zone with less bang for your buck. The service is so/so but the venue is large and can host parties easily.”
“We had a 'BLAST' at the Germania Club ! The kids loved the wrestling show and food, and, we loved the food n beers. We're Going again........REAL SOON !!”
