June was a very good time for me. That is when my neighbour introduced me to her general contractor - Michel Laurin from Handyco Ottawa. I doubt that I can say all the good things I would like to about this man and his company without sounding like a paid advertising but I shall try.
Michel and his employees have gone above and beyond what I would have ever expected to get from a contractor working on an older house to bring it up to more current day standards. In the 7 weeks that they have worked on the house they have completed a ton of work and have never complained, not even once, about what they were being asking to do. Nor have they ever complained about the additional work required as we/they uncovered more problems. They were able to come up with solutions to a myriad of situations and implement those solutions efficiently and inexpensively.
The finished work is sensational and I doubt there are many (if any) other firms that would have completed the work as professionally and in such a short time.
To Michel himself and all of his reliable, super friendly employees I want to extend a very, very heartfelt Thank You.
I highly recommend this man, his employees and his company.

Contacted Handyco when we were unsuccessful in connecting RING doorbell. Michel promptly answered and diagnosed that we had knocked out doorbell transformer. Returned first thing this morning to replace transformer and connect RING. Handyco is now our go to company.
We have even scoped out our next needed home repair.

I had two smaller jobs to get done -- raccoon damage to roof soffit, and wind-damaged roof shingles -- and Michel and Handyco Ottawa took care of it at a great price, with no mess and easy scheduling.
Michel Laurin, the friendly and attentive owner, and his team did an excellent job. Do not hesitate to contact him for an estimate. You will not regret it.

What can I say, if I could put a 10 star I would without hesitation, Michel and his crew are amazing and took care of every little detail for renovating our bathroom, floors and kitchen and believe me I am very fussy, Bob his an exceptional craftsman and Manuel pays attention to every little detail, they were here for several weeks and were a joy to have at our house during this time, excellent workers I must say and very meticulous. We strongly recommend Handyco!!

We are so pleased with our new kitchen!
Bob, Ben, and Manuel did an incredible job on all aspects of this project, from demo to finishing touches. They were respectful of our space, cleaning up daily, and took the time to listen to our questions and comments to address issues immediately.
Michel, the owner, was pleasant to work with and always available for a phone call to answer questions.
We would absolutely recommend Handyco and will definitely use them again for home renovation projects.

We really appreciated the human approach of this company and of the contractor Michel Laurin in particular! What professionalism! Michel is very present, open and attentive to the customer! A low-budget project with the possibility of adapting to needs as the renovation progresses was greatly appreciated. The workers are very professional and sensitive to finishing details according to the customer's request. This company is essential for any renovation! We will surely use Handyco for our future renovation projects, big or small! Thanks to Michel, Bob and Ben in particular! Yes, recommended!

I initially used the online consultation form but did not hear back from them. I emailed and received a response two days later. After going back and forth with details regarding the electrical work I wanted done Handyco gave a 5 hour/$520 quote. We booked an appointment for the following week. On the date of the scheduled appointment no one showed up. I called the company and they apologized and said an electrician should have contacted us. Michel from Handyco said he would fix the issue and would call back in 15 minutes. More than an hour passed so I called back. Michel then gave me the contact info for the electrician and told me to contact him directly. Not impressed. I called the electrician who knew nothing about the job and he quickly threw Handyco under the proverbial bus. I arranged for Dan the electrician to come two days later. On the morning of the appointment Dan texted to say he had COVID and could not make it. Are you kidding me! I cancelled everything with Dan and Handyco. I reached out to a different electrician who gave a 2 hour/$200 dollar quote. I guess Handyco doubles down on their quotes. I do not recommend this company. Their TV ad says no job too small. Not sure I agree

UPDATE: We responded to the original quote with an email requesting an invoice reflecting the recalculated cost of labour/materials. We heard back from the office manager Liza who offered to waive the remaining cost (we had paid a 50% deposit) after a phone call with Michel. We feel that the updated bill fairly reflects the job done. Thanks to Michel and Liza for resolving the issue so quickly.
I was recommended Michel by my home inspector. He was supposed to come at 1pm to fix a vent in our attic. And also check out our bathroom because there were some changes we wanted to make - he said he would take a look when he came. Then the day before he asked if he could come an hour earlier so we had to leave work to be at the property an hour earlier (we’re not living there yet).
He didn’t come himself, he sent two guys who were an hour late (what was the point of rescheduling?) and said they couldn’t look at our bathroom and we would have to reschedule with Michel later. It turned out the job was much smaller than he had initially told us - he had said that they would have to drill a new vent through our attic and cut through brick but this didn’t end up being the case. He then refused to revise the quote because “they don’t know how big the job is going to be and wouldn’t have charged us more if it was a bigger job” and that we are paying a premium because his guys are insured, and that they had to drive to us. We ended up being charged $1000 for two guys to come to our house an hour late and feed three feet of venting through our attic to an existing vent that he hadn’t seen in the pictures. Whole job took under 30 minutes. AND we never got the estimate for our bathroom lol. Personally I don’t think it’s right to overcharge on smaller jobs in order to subsidize what you might lose on a bigger job.
I’ve worked with other vendors/contractors who will recalculate a quote if a job does not cost them what expected in labour/materials. I guess it depends on the honesty of the tradesmen.

As a condo owner I do not maintain a lot of tools so when my list of small jobs was large enough, Michel at Handyco Ottawa was just what we needed. We were able to easily book a convenient time slot, and all jobs were completed quickly and to our satisfaction. Michel even fitted in a couple of last-minute on-site requests for additional small jobs. Handyco Ottawa is an excellent company that delivers on their promises. We plan to use them again for some future projects.
