Don't bother coming in if the owner is on a phone call. I had trouble finding a copy of a book I wanted in the store and waited for the owner to get off the phone so I could ask for help. She never did. I understand important phone calls, but what I don't understand is why she stared at me when I came in and greeted her quietly from the door, or why she ignored me and the other two people I was with when I clearly needed help.

A lovely, quaint little bookstore with a good selection of books. There is something for everyone here. It is like a bookstore from a movie!

My friend wanted to visit this bookstore. We were touring the area on e-bikes and were dressed in nice shorts and t-shirts. While my friend browsed, I found an interesting book on a sale shelf and made my way to the desk to buy it. The proprietor, a very dignified-looking woman, was seated at an old-fashioned desk that served as a sale area. She was on a phone call, so I stood patiently waiting. It soon became apparent that she was speaking with a book supplier, as she was ordering from a list of titles and ISBNs. She did not look up or make eye contact with me. I set the book on the desk, money in hand. I waited right across from her for a full 5-7 minutes. Perhaps it was the fact that I was buying a sale book. Perhaps my casual attire offended her. Or something else about my appearance didn't suit her values, and she decided I was beneath her notice. I left without the book. She looked like a proper lady, and I do not, but one of us behaved with ladylike courtesy, and it was not she.

I am thrilled to know that the "Old Niagara Bookshop" is still open. My husband and I visited years ago now, and loved it. The owner is delightful and knows books! This charming store and lovely owner bless the area and those who visit the area.

A well-curated selection of novels and non-fiction, old and new, including a table of Canadian authors, local history, art, music. Good odds of finding something worth reading in this serene little shop.

Firstly there are a few comments saying the owner is stern, she isn't she's just old fashioned and gives people their space to browse. When I checked out I had a 20 minute conversation with her and she is DELIGHTFUL. She is full of local knowledge and it's worth asking her any historical questions relating to the town. I'm so happy with my Inuit book. This store is totally charming!
