Emma and her team were amazing! I renovated an older bungalow and needed a responsive designer to help design the perfect layout and finishes. I had a plan in mind before contacting Emma and the ideas she gave me saved me money and worked out better in the end! I am super happy with all of the finishes she picked and furniture too! I will be working with her and her team on all future projects!

Our kitchen/ family renovation was completed over a year ago and it makes me happy every day. Emma was great to work with; creative and upbeat. Johanna found a lot of budget cuts that allowed us to stay within our budget and achieve our dream kitchen. Chris could solve any problem that an older home could throw at him ... All in all, a great experience. I would use Grassroots again and have recommended them to many friends.

Our family had the absolute pleasure of working with Kate Dubois at Grassroots to help give us some design inspiration for our new place. Kate is truly talented and helped bring together the pieces and design ideas we loved into a cohesive and comfortable space. We worked with Kate Dubois on an update to our living room, including a new fireplace with built ins. Kate was quick to help us establish a plan, and understood our desire/need to limit choices - really focusing on what she felt would work well for us. In the end we are very pleased with the outcome. Grassroots Design and build are the best in the city! We loved working with Kate Dubois on a family room refresh. I really appreciated the time she spent with me getting to know our style and our home. It didn't matter that our project was small! I felt that she really cared about the project. We absolutely love our family room and we will go back to Kate and Grassroots for our next project for sure.

We worked with Kate to get mood boards and advice for how to best use a challenging room layout, and I couldn't be happier with the result. We just wanted some light touch recommendations rather than a full redesign and she delivered just that! She took the time to understand our needs and give us a product that fit our brief and budget.

We used Grassroots to design and build our kitchen/dining reno, and are happy to have worked with them and love the finished product. The team was professional and efficient, the project was well managed, and the cost estimate was accurate. There were a couple hiccups, as expected - some on our side and some on theirs - and they were quick to find and implement a solution to all. Thanks to our core team Aimee, Xenia, and Chris for taking (most of!) the stress out of renovating.

I did not have a positive design experience with Kate. During the initial meeting she was friendly, and provided us with moodboards in a reasonable time.I was not happy with the moodboards and for a variety of reasons decided not to move forward with more billed time for edits or any other services. When I asked to be billed for time done so far but not to engage in further services / edits to the moodboards, I received a bizarre email about how it was unfair I did not put more effort into our relationship and I owed her the "respect of feedback".I would echo what is said in prior negative reviews that responses to any concerns are very accusatory, and there is not a clear accounting of hours worked despite bills being given per an hourly rate.

We used Grassroots for our recent kitchen renovation. Our designer, Isa, was great to work with throughout the design phase. She was patient as we went back and forth on design ideas and always kept us aware of what certain options would mean for our target budget. When the time of the renovation came around, we were nervous about it not being finished within the timeline they had given us. But we were happily surprised when the work was completed on schedule. Johanna, the project manager, was helpful and responsive throughout the project and the contractors Chris and Drew were friendly and attentive to details. Emma and her team designed and built a beautiful kitchen for us. Emma was creative and fun to work with during the design process and her team did excellent and meticulous work throughout construction despite the challenges of our century home. Grassroots design transformed our house! I've worked with Emma many times over the past decade. She has remodelled my bathroom, helped with a complete redesign of our bedroom and sitting room, and provided colour advice for our porches and my son's bedroom. My house is full of colour, and warm and inviting spaces thanks to Emma. It also matches us perfectly. Love her work!

Emma and her team completed two projects for us (new mud room with custom built/ins and new stairwells with custom runners), and we couldn’t be happier with the results and the service. Despite being projects on the smaller side, we felt like the team prioritized our project, communicated well on timing and pricing, and were attentive to the smallest design details. Awful experience. Emma is disorganized, consistently late, forgets what was discussed, makes mistakes and is then accusatory and rude rather than apologetic. Bills are inflated and she can’t account for any of her hours. Project took significantly longer than it was supposed to, and was frustrating and unbelievably unpleasant. If I could give zero stars, I would.
