Unfortunately I didn't read the reviews before going here. The review about Jim robbing women who need safety inspections for cars from out of province is correct.

Watch out for Jim Dickinson Auto Shop! I recently took my car there for an inspection, and let me tell you, it was quite an experience. Despite my car being in tip-top shape, Jim insisted that my brake pads were rusty and needed replacing ASAP to pass the inspection. He slapped me with a quote of $720 for the job, which just didn't sit right with me. So, I decided to get a second opinion from another mechanic who told me my brakes were perfectly fine and didn't need any attention. Jim still charged me $192 for the inspection, which felt like a total rip-off. It seems like Jim might try to sell you unnecessary repairs, so be cautious and get multiple opinions before agreeing to anything at his shop.

This person calls himself a professional! But a professional person never hide information from you to deceive you!I took my car to him yesterday to simply get a safety certificate. My car is a 2016 Mazda3 with only 45,000 KM driven. A super clean Car!My appointment was at 8am. Jim, the "professional" mechanic showed-up 40 minutes late! After I made sure my car was under service and was told that it would only take one hour and a half, I went for a short walk.Just a quarter to 10 I came back and Jim showed me some photos of my car's brakes rotors and told me that they are dusty and need to be changed but never told me how much it would cost. I'm not a mechanic but I expect a "professional" mechanic to be transparent about the prices and explains me as a costumer how much I should pay at the end if he does change the entire brakes (which I'm not even sure it was necessary at all because my car is only a very clean 4-year Mazda). After I came back in the afternoon to pick up the car I got shocked by a bill of $1,600! He claimed he had told me the prices in the air, but he never did that. Then he said his camera had recorded our conversation, so I asked him to play that for me! Obviously he didn't do it and said I don't have time!I'm not a fighter. At the end I paid $1,450 for something that my car probably didn't need it. I can never prove that, but I don't trust this guy and don't recommend it to anyone! I'll find a mechanic who is transparent about prices and materials they use in my car in-advance!He definitely tries his best to justify what he has done without any apologizing for taking advantage of a person who is not a mechanic and trusted you as a "professional".

Jim is extremely knowledgeable, dedicated and committed to ensure that he does everything in his power to solve the problem. He takes his time to explain all of the issues and provides recommendations on the way forward. In all of my conversations with Jim, I always knew that his priority was to do a great job, explain the pros and cons, so that the customer can make an informed decision. Jim is a diamond in the rough amongst mechanics. Highly recommended!

I took my truck (2019 w/ 66,000km) in to get a safety inspection completed so that I could register it in Ontario. I didn't tell them that it had a safety inspection in another province less than a month before and it passed with zero issues.I was told that the brakes were rusted out and needed to be replaced in order to pass the inspection. Jim showed me pictures and explained the "salt damage". The problem was that I just bought the truck from Saskatchewan (where they don't salt the roads). When I told him that, he changed the story to saying that it must be dirt that was causing the brakes to rust.I didn't believe him and did not move forward with the repairs. I then took the truck into a Dodge dealer and asked them to check the brakes. I was not surprised to find out that they were fine and do not need to be replaced.I honestly feel like if my husband had made the appointment, the treatment may have been different. I will not be returning to this business ever again and would not recommend it to others - especially women.Service: Vehicle safety inspection

They were great to get me in. Greatly appreciate that. I suggested an issue that I thought was a problem to which I was told I’m just a “worry wart”. They fixed what they thought was the issue and had to buy tires to boot. Left there with the same issue. Consulted my localMechanic and turns out it was what I originally thought. Won’t be going back just because it felt like I was made to feel like I don’t know anything.Side note, the did fix a battery issue but told them I was certain there was a ball joint or strut/bearing issue which was then told I was a worry wart. The work they did for bushings and battery cables was fine but didn’t look into one of the main issues which was found very quickly by another mechanic.
