I hold South American culture very dearly to my heart so I was thrilled to find this store a few years ago. When I had Argentinian friends visiting Ottawa a few months ago I did not think twice to bring them to the store. Once in the store we decided we would allow our kids to get plushies. Our kids looked around, under our supervision, and loved the llamas. It took them a little examination of the plushies to decide which one they wanted, but they were gentle with everything they saw. I actually was quite restrictive of what they could touch and couldn’t as I know there are fragile items in the store. The only employee present did not greet us or acknowledged us, but continued to look after every single step/ movement we made with annoyance. Suddenly he strode towards my older child and said in a derogatory tone “do not touch that llama if you are not going to buy it - it is very expensive and you will damage it.” it is an understatement to say my daughter felt attacked by his tone. I told him to please address me, as I am the grown up and I am looking over my child. He said the items are very expensive and not to be touched - that I should pay beforehand, and asked if we would buy something. All good and understandable, as all stores have policies. My problem was his tone and demeanor and how he addressed a CHILD. I rarely write reviews but my child, my friends and I felt so astounded by his rudeness that it will be tough to come back to the store. Mind you- we have been in Ecuador , Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Mexico, Argentina where all of this craftsmanship is all over the place, is very affordable and artisans are always kind and welcoming of children. All to say- we did not encounter that Latin American kindness we were hoping to find in this store.

We were shopping around and slowly making our way around the store when an employee indirectly asked us to leave as we were taking too long I guess (15 mins maybe). I was genuinely considering buying an item as the store is lovely, but we quietly left instead. We were respectful and not loud, and the store wasn’t very busy.

sells a bunch of really unique and super cute products! I wanted to buy it all. LOVE the flowy pants, so many cute options. Definitely stop here if ur in by-ward market!

Bought some very nice pieces there... All was fine, until we drove home & found that one item in our bag wasn't the correct size, it had been switched at the register. We're over 2 hours away, can't go back to exchange it for the correct size. All other items were fine, why was one item changed for a smaller size?....Update...We called that night (right at closing time), the clerk who put the items in the bag apologized for his error. We ended up driving 2+ hours back the next day. The item couldn't be exchanged, since the size needed had been sold out. We had to argue to get a refund... I know there is a no refund policy, but considering this was not *our* error (the clerk had admitted his error, remembered the size we needed), this was unacceptable. Add in the 5 hours wasted time driving to & back, then having to argue to get our money back?Just so disappointing...

A little store with a big heart is how I think of this place! The owners work hard to bring in clothing that both looks beautiful and provides a real wage to the makers. I have had many positive comments from people about my jacket (spring/fall) that I got from there and I *always* tell them where I got it from. Because (imo) everyone should know about this place!
