Ineke knows what she's doing! Our leash-aggressive and reactive dog has completely turned around. Her methods work and have kept our dog and us safe and confident in each other long after our training ended. Thank you!

I’ve been meaning to post this for quite some time but only got around to it today.
It seems like an ok place, despite some forceful methods for dog training but that’s not what I’m here for. My complaint doesn’t come as a customer but just as a fellow dog owner. In the evening/at night, the dobermans that are on site for this dog training company are free roaming the front of the store and guard the giant windows/glass door to the front. Many times I’ve walked past that place and had the dobermans running up to the glass barking excessively at me and my partially blind dog-startling us, and triggering my dog. The person on site doesn’t do anything to remedy the behaviour/scenario. In this situation I wouldn’t punish the dobermans because they are guarding their “territory”(which is what they are meant to do) but I do recommend putting blinds down for the comfort of dog walkers as well as to ease the stress of the dobermans(they seem like good dogs, but a glass window looking onto the downtown area is just asking for pent up frustrations). I know several other dog owners in the downtown area that have experienced this with their dogs as well.
I put three stars because I figured the trainers would recognize this behaviour after weeks maybe even months of this but the situation stays the same, I try to avoid that side of the sidewalk nowadays when I can, but I think the point still stands.
TLDR; covering up the windows and door at night will help ease the stress on your dogs as well as the neighborhood dogs and won’t set back any training. We should be setting our dogs up for success and not failure :) Thank you, I hope you can take this info into consideration!

I am unhappy with this company. When I first arrived at the consultation, Ineke came out the side door with her two Dobermans leashed but lunging and pulling towards me and my dog, scaring my puppy and making him cry. A dog trainer should not allow this interaction to occur, especially without my consent. In addition before the consultation I told her I would like to work on my dog’s fear. This encounter if anything undoes my training I have been working on to get my dog more comfortable in public.I had a $50 consultation with Ineke and did not agree with the training methods and questioned it, but I was just told that her training methods are correct with no backing as to why. She said these methods work for her dogs, but this is anecdotal and not actually backed with evidence. She put the prong collar on my dog and he cried. I was convinced to buy the prong collar which was $45 but I only had a $100 bill. I was uncomfortable with this, but at the moment agreed because I feel weird making a scene. The trainer told me she had no change so she would apply the remaining $55 to the next training session. I felt pressured to book this training that I did not want to book. This bothered me and it was unprofessional for her to not provide change. After thinking about it more, I called her and told her I do not want to continue training and would like my $55 back. She told me that there are no refunds for deposits. This is upsetting because I never wanted to make a deposit in the first place, she just didn’t have change and I was pressured to book. I would never ask for the $50 consultation fee back because this is what I paid for her time, however, the $55 was my change and she would not give it back. I would have liked to return the $45 prong collar that I will never use. I will just throw this collar out. I understand I have not lost a huge amount of money, but I was still very upset.I do not want to use prong collars or shock collars on my dog. I would rather train my dog with positive reinforcement. I think these prong collars and other devices are used for a quick but ineffective fix. I will look elsewhere for trainers with the specific methods I am looking to learn.I also felt upset that one of the survey questions before starting training was “How much money are you willing to spend on training?”. I feel like this question implies that those who will pay more will get better service or that she will focus strongly on those who pay more. It is not inclusive.

I highly recommend Turner & Pooch! Ineke was able to stop my 140 pound Great Dane from very problematic behaviours. I never thought I would be able to walk my dog downtown. She knows dog psychology and understands training is more than just giving your dog treats. She helped me with a wide range of issues, right down to helping me trim my dogs nails. She is always available to talk too. I feel so much more confident as an owner and my dog is so much calmer. I finally trust my dog!

Ineke is honestly a very attentive and dedicated trainer. Understanding the dog's needs are absolutely her first priority and teaching an owner how to adapt and meet those criteria are always on the forefront of her mind. She was fostering a dog that through a combination of fate and circumstance ended up being adopted by me - and while this dog has a major learning curve based on her history, Ineke is there when I need her for advice, helping me with training and understanding where my dog's needs are coming from.If you have a dog who is headstrong, a dog whole pulls, a dog who doesn't play well with others or one who is way too attached to you and is becoming destructive, contact Ineke. Let her work with you and your dog, come on one of the Sunday pack walks if you are uncertain and she will absolutely help you create a dog with better leash manners and behaviour within just that 40 minute walk. Her classes are affordable, informative and 100% worth trying before you too end up at the end of your own leash trying to wrap your head around your COVID puppy who now can't be away from you, your recent rescue or even your older dog who just about rips your arm off when trying to walk them.

My Pretty girl Athena at distraction training tonight. When we first arrived, she was shaking she was so excited. Kept whining to go see all the people and other dogs at Rogers cove. Frothing at the mouth out of excitement even!Couldn't seem to settle.Just....hyper.By the time we left, she wasn't reacting to anyone or any dog walking by, she would acknowledge them but stay still. She wasn't as hyper focussed on things. Her ears went down, she was calm, and just enjoying her view. This is my second time coming to Ineke.... because her methods WORK.She knows dogs. She knows what humans need to do to be able to communicate with their pooches. It strengthens the bond. HUGELY.I came back for training because my dog gets overly excited at the sight of any animal or person. It was becoming a problem.Ecollars are NOT cruel. They are humane. They are teaching tool. They WORK.I highly recommend Turner and Pooch.

I highly recommend Turner & Pooch. Some of the issues Ineke helped with were getting my dog to stop pulling on the leash and barking at other dogs while walking, getting my dog to come when I called him and helping him to be much more calm in general. Ineke was very patient with me in answering my many questions and was very accessible for follow-up.

Zero stars would be there preference here. Their posts about using pain to train a dog are disgusting. It's been proven over an over positive training gets you miles ahead of these outdated methods.

My mom used Turner and Pooch for her new rescue dog. The training style did not foster trust nor focus on the areas that were asked for. The training took place in a downtown park with a lot of focus on off leash work even when she was warned that the dog was not ready. The dog bolted multiple times and came close to running into traffic. A large upfront fee ($1200!) was required and no refund was given. Training made the dog more nervous and was an awful fit for both the dog and my mom. There are much more capable trainers for a lot less.

I had a good dog, who was reactive to other dogs on the leash, and had a strong prey drive. Now I have a GREAT dog, and it didn't even take the full 6 sessions. Within 3 weeks, he was perfect off leash and has done wonderfully well with our new kitten, despite his strong prey drive history, and leash reactivity is gone. Next we'll be looking at getting him to become a therapy dog. I love how Ineke is so straightforward, direct, easy to talk to and so supportive. other trainers I had treated my dog like he was aggressive and dangerous, which wasn't the case at all. Ineke's guidance in teaching me to use the e-collar correctly was a total game-changer for life. (Just make sure you do your homework between sessions!)

My reactive dog was dramatically calmer and less anxious after our time working with Ineke. My dog is so much better on and off leash after our sessions. She boosted my confidence and skills managing his challenging behaviors. My dog loved coming to her classes which were calm and informative.

Pumpkin, My dog, Pumpkin is a COVID doberman who is reactive to dogs and people. He barked at my neighbors and sometimes escaped out of my backyard to chase my neighbor's dogs. I found Ineke online and drove an hour to meet Ineke for an intial assessment on my dog. After the assessment, I decided to go with six hours of 1-on-1 private lessons. Just after one session, Pumpkin became calmer, and can follow my orders most of time. I still have one more training session left, but the results are way better. It's a day and night difference. Pumpkin now can plays in my backyard (no fence around but hedge trees) off leash without escaping out. I feel more control on Pumpkin. My neighbors who passed by my backyard everyday also noticed the big change on Pumpkin. Never happier for having my Pumpkin now.

I am very happy and satisfied with Ineke. Our miniature schnauzer “Sadie” is a well behaved dog, a pleasure to walk on leash and play with off leash. She responded to Ineke’s style of training extremely well right from day one. Between sessions I brought Sadie home and practiced what “we” were taught. I now have a dog that people love, compliment on how well she acts, behaves around people and other dogs. If you follow what Ineke teaches you, you will have a great experience and so will your best friend ?
