Once again YIG Port Elgin fails, or perhaps it is their PC Optimum program. Load your offers and then when going through the cash the offers are not honored. I showed the cashier the offer but nothing. And the cashier said there was nothing she could do when it is an electronic offer. So YIG Port Elgin, once again, failed.

The staff was incredibly rude! They asked for receipts and when they were shown they stormed off like they were disappointed we weren't stealing!!! Just terrible.

was using the self checkout when the older woman with white hair came over to my till, grabbed a bag of peaches out of my hand, and proceeded to scan the rest of my items as well stood behind me looking angrily while i paid, almost felt like i was being accused of stealing when i have been a loyal costumer to independents, crazy how bad i got treated, almost feels like a policy violation. really disappointed

Charging $16.00 each for trays of dried-up, mismatched fried chicken pieces is NOT how you keep loyal customers.

Was using self check out when the older lady with white hair told the younger employee working with her to not Honour the clearance discount. I even walked to the aisle with her to show her it was on sale and she went to the department manager for help and the department manager said to honour it. They were struggling to input the discounted price and than the old senior lady with the white hair said that it’s Manufacturing department faults, I have to pay the regular price if I wanted the item. The younger employee even took pictures of the clearance items on sale. The description and bar code matches. This is Bullshit. Waiting 20 minutes for them to reslove it and they didn’t honour their mistakes. Never shopping here again.

I find it on the pricey side but they do offer the best options for lactose free items.
I wish they offered more ethnic (i.e. miso paste) and halal options.

I placed an order for 48 cupcakes ahead of our co-workers 60th birthday party. All information was communicated regarding number of cupcakes, flavours, icing and contact numbers. Days later I call the bakery department 30 minutes before pick up time to make sure they are ready for pick up. Sure enough there’s no cupcakes ready and they seem to have lost the order, very frustrating.

Went in 2 weeks ago at 10:15 am to buy a couple of fresh baked loaves and couldn’t believe there were only 5 panini buns and a couple of loaves of bagged farmers bread and 4 bagged sour dough bread(obviously yesterday’s bread selling for the same price as fresh). The shelves were always stocked with bread & rolls with the previous 2 owners upon opening the store.
I went in this morning only to find bagged sour dough and cheese bread that was so overproofed that it had collapsed and one of the loaves was actually broken. I was appalled that the owners or at the very least that the Bakery manager would allow these to be sold. And these could be yours for $5.79 a loaf!! From now on I will spend the extra 5 minutes driving to Foodland in Southampton where the fresh baked goods are always fresh, beautifully baked and delicious and where the owners respect their customers and the employees take pride in what they bake for their customers.

Spent a few days on vacation in the area. The prices are unbelievable compared to Food Basics. We feel for the locals paying these outrageous prices. Never again good luck.

Here is why I will not return to this over priced store: My first time in the store I opt to buy an 18 L jug of water. This was Sunday evening of the long weekend, around 8:30 pm. The cashier tells me there is a deposit and asks if that is ok. I state yes, as I am familiar with the deposit system. I am use to returning the bottles for a $10 refund as I buy these bottles often. No information is provided to me that this store does not offer a cash refund.
He then asked if I want plastic bags for my 4 apples and 4 pears, I state no, I do not like to use the plastic. He states, you can reuse them you know. Nothing better than a cashier who argues. Yes, I can reuse them but they also still end up in the landfill eventually.
On Tuesday June 25th I bring the bottle back hoping to retrieve my money back. The cashier asked for my ticket. I am baffled what ticket? He states the ticket you got from customer service? I am thoroughly confused as I had asked him if I could bring it to any cash. He then explains that independent does not return the deposit but instead provides a ticket to use towards the purchase of another bottle. I explain I do not wish to purchase another bottle, I just want my money back. He reiterates the policy which makes no sense to me as not everyone will want to continue to buy these jugs.
I then ask to speak to a manager and he said I have to go to customer service. I explain that I am healing from a broken ankle and walking is bad that day can he have the manager come to me. No, I am told it’s easier for the manager to go to customer service. Clearly my needs do not matter.
The woman in customer service instead of calling the manager tells me the day manager has gone home and the night manager will not know about the policy. But I the first time customer was suppose to know. She then goes on to reiterate the policy telling me it’s been in place for three years and only head office can reverse it. I explain to her that I am not from here and this was my first time shopping there (it’s a tourist town after all). I explain that this policy was not expressed to me which would have informed my decision to buy or not. I would have opted for not. She proceeds to tell me maybe the cashier was new. Ok, but I cannot be responsible for your staff and what they are trained to do and how they do it. Instead of hearing more of her excuses I ask, why I cannot speak to the manager.
So all and all I am wrong for not knowing the policy, I cannot speak to a manger as he is on lunch. I paid $20 for a jug of water which I could have paid $4.44 for at Food Basics as they refund the deposit. Based on this being my first two interactions in the store I can assure you I will not return. This is a shame as I have been a loyal Loblaws brand shopping since childhood and I have two PC credit cards. I guess I won’t be using those anymore either.
