I would like to preface my review by stating that I have visited and purchased from this location numerous times. Unfortunately, after my visit today, I will never be returning.
I am utterly disgusted by the representation of this business made by the female employee working at appox. 3PM on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. I am not aware of her name, as I quickly exited the business after the confrontational manner she addressed me in.
While visiting this location, as I often would during leisure times - I noticed an animal that appeared to be deceased. I would like to make it known that I hold no judgement for this, as I am aware that it is a natural part of the circle of life.
Unfortunately as I went to address this with the employee on duty, I was met with a shockingly rude response which left me with a loss for words. Before finishing my statement, the employee interrupted me to, very aggressively, inform me;
“He’s not dead.”
She then went on to explain to me that she had supposedly recently checked on the animal to ensure this. Which is wonderful. The manner in which she informed me of the animals condition, however, was downright dreadful. Completely arrogant, and unnecessarily rude. It were as though multiple people had brought the animals condition to her attention, and she was now ‘fed up,’ with being notified.
Fortunately, there is a probable simple solution to this annoyance; a sign.
I understand the frustration of being told the same thing multiple times - as I work in hospitality. However, I pride myself in engineering solutions to these issues rather than taking my frustrations out on costumers.
I am glad to know that the animal is alive. I hope he is doing well. As for the complete lack of professionalism shown by this employee.. well, please understand that we are not all animal experts. I believe that the care shown to you through those who notified you of the animal should have been met with an ounce of respect.
It is your job to help guests who have questions and concerns, not to combat them with such aggressive behaviours.

Wow, Rick's Pet Store in Renfrew totally deserves a shoutout with a big 5 stars from me! Walking into the store, you're hit with this super welcoming vibe. The crew there is all smiles, super friendly, and very helpful.
And man, do they know their stuff or what? I've picked their brains about everything aquarium-related - from the perfect snail to the best fishy friends for my tank - and they've given me top-notch advice every single time. They're like the fish whisperers of Renfrew!
The place itself is a breath of fresh air. Clean, tidy, and everything's right where you expect it to be. No epic quests needed to find what I'm looking for, whether it's food for my shrimp or some fancy new decor for my aquarium.
I've been decking out my tank with goodies from Rick's for a while now, and it's never looked better. Seriously, if you're into fish, snails, or just need some aquarium supplies, hit up Rick's Pet Store. You won't be disappointed. They've made my aquarium journey a breeze and way more fun.

Over priced out off this world price on all fish.Poor selection( stock ) of fish at both locations Renfrew and Arnprior.They seem to prefer you order your fish (pay extra for that as well).Almost $20 ea fish before tax.Disapointing to say the least.

Amazing locally owned pet store with fantastic service by seemingly trained workers.As with any pet store though, you must use discretion when purchasing slow-moving animals that are more difficult to detect if they are alive or not. I wish their return policy for buying dead animals was replacement rather than the 50% off next animal purchase standard they offer, but unfortunately people would likely exploit it ?

A TRUE GEM IN THE VALLEY !When my wife & I moved to Renfrew 3 years ago, I was quite pleased to find Rick’s Pet Store to support my fish hobby. Since then I have dropped in many times for supplies and advice, and have never been anything but totally impressed with this operation. The owners, Rick & Shelley, have certainly created, in all their four locations, a culture of service and respect for each of their customer’s needs.Each store has impressive stock and prompt order access for anything else. Of course, the defining strength and success of any company is its staff. My appreciation & gratitude to Lynn, Monika, and Kat who have served me so well with patience, caring and knowledge.5 stars all the way !Thanks, Rick & Shelley - such a refreshing experience in this age of Amazon !!John

Between yesterday and today, we visited and shopped at the Petawawa, Pembroke and Renfrew Rick's Pet Stores. Everyone we interacted with were extremely helpful, friendly and professional. We will be back again!
