The entire U-Haul online system was down when I went to pick up my rental. The woman doing the check-in was pleasant and did her best to take down all the information from me, make photocopies of my license, sign the waiver for protection, etc. However, they didn't have any of the old manual paperwork like they used to do before the whole online system was introduced. This meant it took almost 15 minutes just to get everything figured out and finally getting the keys to the vehicle. She had at least done rentals prior to the whole electronic system so had an idea of all the things she needed info on and wrote it down on a sheet of paper and grabbed an older waiver for to sign. She made copies and gave me one as well.The cargo van I got was newer and was all in metric (km and litres) which was nice to see and it functioned really well. However, it did have the message of "oil change needed soon" and there was no mention of that when I picked up the van and they seemed shocked when I dropped it off when I mentioned that to them. When I went to return the van, a different woman was running the front and she had NO CLUE how to do a return without the computer. They even had a regional manager there at the time that had his little tablet that said he'd try. He was able to look up my name and verify that yes I should have a rental but couldn't return anything. He said he'd look after it. Unfortunately, when I got my final bill email, they didn't even look at the paperwork that was filled out at the start and charged me for things that I declined when I picked it up. Not only that, I had contacted customer service when the system came back up and I got an email with my contract that showed the coverage included and they said they would put a note on my file to ensure it wasn't charged. Alas, it still happened. This meant having to contact customer service and get things reversed, taking even more time out of my weekend plans. It would have been less of a headache for me to drive back to the store and do the self check-in even though I had actually returned the van almost 3 hours after I got the first email from UHaul.I'm sure it would have been better on a day everything was working but why the staff are not trained how to deal with a system outage and have paper copies is beyond me. I was lucky that I documented EVERYTHING and was able to plead my case to U-Haul to have charges reversed. If I didn't, I'm not sure what would have happened. Overall, the cargo van worked great and I got everything I needed moved, but the hassle of the pick-up and drop-off and then subsequent customer service contacts twice really left a bad taste in my mouth. I will most likely look elsewhere the next time I need to rent a moving vehicle and definitely not U-Haul if I have a choice.

I reserved on line with a set price but when I went into this location to pick up it was $25 ish more but had to pay an extra $50 for a deposit but was told I would get that back upon drop off. The manager went through KM and said it had half a tank an just to make sure it’s correct when I get in nothing else was brought up. Upon opening it didn’t come with a dolly like I reserved and the moving blanket smelled terrible. Upon return she gave me issue with how I parked but due to their construction the only spot La for the trucks where up on a curb out front an I was not comfortable driving over. I went in to get my deposit back but she then charged me an extra $25 on top of it all saying I used a quarter of gas so I was to pay more. The original quote was $56 final pay was $125. The manager was absolutely rude about it and argumentative when I said she should have covered more terms like having to top up the gas. Just not a good outlet or service experience l.

We picked up the vehicle and once we arrived at our home address we found the vehicle was full of garbage and STANK, it was absolutely disgusting. The dash and seats were also covered in cigarette ash, we had to sit in it for two hours making a delivery. I was promised a full refund from Uhaul and only got $100 back, after calling back a week later the teller at the gas station apparently could not remember the incident and said it's fine if I do not use them again lol. Just ridiculous, the one in St. Marys is a million times better, offers great service but often doesn't have a 10ft truck.

Huge shout out to Esso Stratford location and Kelsey! 12/10 service. Kelsey went absolutely above and beyond to meet all of our needs, and we couldn’t have been happier with the service.We had booked a truck multiple weeks prior in Belleville, in which U-Haul notified us they only had a 10ft truck available when we had booked and “secured” a 15ft truck. The U-Haul folks on that end and further head office out of Toronto were extremely rude and non empathetic to say the least. When reaching out to other U-Haul dealers in a pinch, Kelsey stepped up to the plate, pulled some strings, and was absolutely incredible. Fine example of customer service not being lost. Thank you Kelsey and Stratford Esso!

we booked and reserved for a 20 ft truck (one week early)..We get there and they only have a 15 footer.This is the day of the Rogers outage btw so their system is down.The store attendant is nice and apologetic. We say that the 15ft truck wont do or we would have to do 2 trips (an extra 85 km more or less). She calls her manager and then tells us that the manager said we could have and pay for the 15ft truck only and not to worry about KM and gas which they would cover since they did not have the truck we had booked.all good right?I get my visa bill and I am charged full price, truck + gas + KM.I called the location and the manager "Kelsey" (she did not want to tell me her name at 1st) says"we never said any of that, no way we are refunding KM and gas. It was a new girl that day and she did not know what she was doing...and she never talked to a manager"She said to call the head office and best they will likely do is a $50 refund.Hey Kelsey....1st....thanks for being rude to me and blaming your new employee who was super nice that day under the circumstance that she was "new" and left alone to deal with a system outage.2nd....$50 refund?...YOU as a manager was responsible to give us a 20 ft truck.....YOU did not.We had to make a second trip (2+ hrs of time, plus the KM and gas that YOU are charging me).That $50 does not even cover the 2 hrs I am spending now on the phone with your head office and regional manager to recoup the $$$ you are overcharged me.Thanks for nothing manager Kelsey

Renting a 20' U-Haul truck yesterday from this location with not much notice. Company was extremely helpful. They reduced rates as I was going a lot of kms.Fellow arrived early for my pickup and waited late for me to return.Highly recommended. Also noticed they are involved in live edge and epoxy applications.Amazing place with amazing staff.#

Came to pick up my U-Haul that I had ordered and arranged to pick up at 12pm and the lady behind the counter told me that she couldn't get ahold of me (my number was wrong I guess) and that I had 30 mins before she was going to give my rental away before it was even noon (I showed up 15 min early so 11:45am) she was extremely rude and I wouldn't not want to have to deal with her again even if it's just getting gas or buying a chocolate bar. Easy 1 star, if someone books something for a certain time they have until that time or else why would I book it?

Being a gas station as well I found that if it's busy it takes too much time to rent a truck etc here. Mind you the people that work here when it's busy have too much to handle sometimes. They should have a different part for the U-Haul employees, not behind the counter dealing with customers for rental trucks and to look after the gas station as well as anyone that just comes in to buy cigerettes, pop, chips or a chocolate bar.
